Radnor, PA - The Cabrini baseball team took an early 4-0 lead over Gwynedd Mercy University in the final game of the two game series, but couldn't contain the streaking Griffins' offense as they allowed 11 runs over the final six innings.
The Blue and White had a strong showing offensively themselves as they pushed across seven runs on 11 hits, highlighted by senior
Brett Kuchera's three hits and two RBI's.
Junior
John Lindeborn and freshmen
JD Barrett and
Mack McKisson tallied two hits and one RBI each, while junior
Tyler Norris and senior
Dylan Butler finished with one base knock.
Freshman
Ray Lutick toed the rubber for Cabrini and was cruising through three innings before allowing his first hit of the game, a two RBI double off the bat of Ryan Keen. Lutick would last just another frame as he was chased after four batters in the fifth. He finished with 4+ innings pitched and allowing five earned on five hits with two strikeouts.
Classmate
Matt Dobeck was ultimately stuck with the loss after allowing four runs, only two of which were earned, in an inning of relief.
As mentioned, the Cavaliers jumped out to an early 4-0 lead thanks to key hits from Lindeborn and Kuchera that brought home a run each, as well as a botched throw from the Griffins' second baseman that allowed Barrett to score.
Gwynedd would chip away and continue to build their lead as they struck for two runs in the bottom of the third on the aforementioned double from Keen and followed it up with three runs in the fifth inning and five runs in the sixth to take a commanding 10-5 lead. A lone run in the eighth pushed the visitor's lead to 11-5.
The Blue and White mounted a late comeback attempt in the top of the ninth as Lindeborn led things off with a walk. A McKisson double put runners on second and third with one out for Kuchera, who delivered a single to center to plate Lindeborn and push Barrett to third. Pinch hitter
Brendan Van Belle beat out a tailor-made double play ball to push across the Cavs' final run, but the rally would end with thereafter.
With the loss, the Cavaliers move to 13-15 overall and 2-6 in conference play. They will look to turn things around when they travel to Langhorne, PA to take on Cairn University for a doubleheader on Saturday, April 21. First pitch is slate for noon.
