RADNOR, PA – The Cabrini women's lacrosse team saw its five game win streak come to an end today, as the Cavaliers suffered a 19-8 loss to Colorado College at Edith Robb Dixon Field.
The Blue and White fell to 9-6 on the season, while the Tigers improved to 12-3.
Today also marked the final regular season home appearance for Cabrini's seven seniors,
Emily Crouse,
Liz Hoeffner,
Sara Johnsen,
Gabby Lee,
Megan McLoughlin,
Jackie Neary and
Alex Petrongolo.
As a class, these ladies have led the Cavaliers to 53 victories, including three consecutive CSAC championships and an NCAA Tournament victory. In their 282 appearances, they have combined for 342 points, 273 goals, 324 ground balls, 274 draw controls and 233 caused turnovers.
Junior
Avery Murphy led the Cavaliers with three goals and two assists to go with a game-high eight draw controls. Hoeffner and freshman
Taylor Dimmerling added two goals each.
With her two goals and three points, Hoeffner has tied the program's single season goals record of 74, while her 89 points are tied for second on the single season list.
Senior
Jackie Neary tallied six draw controls, four ground balls and matched junior
Emma Rodner-Tims with four caused turnovers. Junior goaltender
Devon Scharf joined Murphy with three ground balls, while sophomores
Lauren Hughes,
Sarah McCarron and
Mattie Porter scooped two ground balls each.
Cabrini fell behind early, as the Tigers netted the game's first two goals. Dimmerling's first goal interrupted the CC scoring run, before the Tigers scored six unanswered goals to take an 8-1 lead at the 17:52 mark.
Hoeffner hit Murphy for a women-up goal just 32 seconds later, but the Blue and White could not sustain its offense, as Colorado College closed the half on a 6-0 run.
Trailing 14-2 at the half, the Cavaliers found a bit of rhythm to open the second half, Murphy, Dimmerling and Tutzauer began the second stanza with consecutive goals.
Again Cabrini could not continue its momentum, as the Tigers reeled off five consecutive goals to push their lead to 19-5.
The Blue and White scored the game's final three goals, with Murphy and Hoeffner combining for the three tallies.
Both clubs recorded 29 shots and 20 turnovers on the day, but the Cavaliers could not take advantage of its chances, converting just two of its nine free position chances, including 0-4 in the first half.
Sophomore Eva King led the Tigers with four goals, five assists and three ground balls, while classmate Allie Thuet added four goals. Seniors Annie DeFrino and Steph Kelly also recorded hat tricks. CC's goaltenders, freshman Alena Stern and senior Zoe Frolik, combined for nine saves.
The Cavaliers will return to CSAC play on Saturday, as they close their league schedule with a trip to Marywood University (9-5, 7-0 CSAC), with Saturday's winner earning the top seed in the upcoming CSAC Tournament. The opening draw is slated for 1pm in Scranton, PA.
