Diamond Cavs Edged by Giants in CSAC Opener

Radnor, PA - The Cabrini baseball team was edged in both games of today's double header against the Keystone College Giants to open Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) play.

Game One: Cabrini 1, Keystone 2
The Blue and White led until the sixth inning, but couldn't fend off the reigning CSAC champs as the Giants scored one run in both the top of the sixth and seventh to steal the 2-1 come-from-behind victory.

Freshman Corey Hunt turned in a superb outing against a veteran laden Giant squad as the righty went six plus innings, allowing just two earned off five hits and two walks, and striking out two. Unfortunately for Hunt, he would be saddled with the tough luck loss - his first of the season.

Hunt was countered pitch for pitch by 2017 CSAC Pitcher of the Year Troy Terzi who logged his second complete game of the season as tossing seven innings, allowing four hits and one earned in the process.

Junior Tyler Norris, sophomore Vince Gares, and freshmen JD Barrett and Mack McKisson combined for all four of the Cavaliers' hits, while Norris scored the lone run.

Barrett and the Cavs dealt the first blow in the bottom of the third as the rookie roped a single through the right side to plate Norris, who earned his way on by beating out a single to the shortstop. Terzi would escape further damage, however as he induced a flyout from junior John Lindeborn and struckout senior Dylan Butler to end the inning.

Hunt would carry the 1-0 lead into the sixth until the Giants used a single and a steal from Bray Curreri to set up an RBI double off the bat of Adam Kelly.

It wasn't until the top of the seventh that the Giants chased Hunt, forcing fellow freshman Matt Dobeck on in relief, and pushed across the winning run off an RBI single through the left side.

Cabrini would go down in order in the bottom half of the frame as Keystone hung on for the 2-1 victory.

Game Two: Cabrini 3, Keystone 4
Game two featured more offensively from both teams as they combined for a total of 21 hits across the nine inning affair, with the Giants ultimately pushing across another late game winning run.

Rookie Ray Lutick toed the rubber in the backend of the double header, navigating through nine hits in four innings, allowing just three earned - all of which came in the first two innings.

Classmate Griffin Hays came on in relief of Lutick and turned in four strong innings, allowing just four hits and one earned, but was also stuck with the tough luck loss.

Keystone's Dakota McFadden opposed Lutick and allowed three runs, two earned, through 6.1 innings. Teammate Nathan Hinkley earned the victory after coming on in relief for .2 of an inning.

Lindeborn and McKisson paced the Blue and White offense as each tallied three hits and an RBI, while Gares knocked in the other RBI courtesy of a fielders choice.

As mentioned, the Giants pushed across three runs in the games first two innings to take the early lead. Cabrini would slowly chip away at the visitors lead, beginning with Gares aforementioned RBI in the fourth to make it a 3-1 game.

Norris would lead off the fifth with a double off the center field wall and move to third thanks to a ball hit on the right side off the bat of Barrett. A single down the left field line from Lindeborn would cut the Cavs' deficit to just one, as the score moved to 3-2.

After a 1-2-3 sixth and top of the seventh, Norris and the Cavaliers would put the pressure on again after the junior stood on third with only one out after reaching off a throwing error from Keystone third baseman Bray Curreri. Hinkley, who came on in relief of McFadden following the error, retired Lindeborn to bring up McKisson with two outs. The rookie delivered in the clutch with a bloop single to center to score Norris and even things at three.

The Giants showed poise, however as they responded with the eventual game winner in the following frame courtesy of a single up the middle from Alejandro Monteverde.

Following the pair of losses, the Cavaliers record moves to 11-11 overall and 0-2 in conference play. They'll look to secure their first CSAC victory of the season on Tuesday, April 10th, when they travel to Aston, PA to face the Neumann Knights. First pitch is slated for 3pm.
