RADNOR, PA – The Cabrini women's lacrosse team improved to 5-0 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference with today's 23-10 victory over the Gwynedd Mercy Griffins today at Edith Robb Dixon Field.
The win improved the Cavaliers to 6-5 overall and extended its CSAC win streak to 54 games.
The Blue and White gained control of the game in the opening minutes, as junior
Avery Murphy opened the scoring 82 second after the opening whistle. Junior
Emma Rodner-Tims and sophomore
Lauren Hughes added goals over the next 50 seconds and Cabrini was off and running.
Seven Cavaliers recorded points in the game's first six minutes, as Cabrini built a 7-0 lead at the 24:08 mark.
The Griffins got on the board at the 23:55 mark, but the Blue and White scored six of the next seven goals, including five Murphy and classmate
Liz Hoeffner, extending the lead to 13-2 with 16:15 left in the stanza.
Sophomore Samantha Brown sparked GMercyU to three consecutive goals, before freshman
Taylor Dimmerling joined Murphy and Rodner-Tims with goals pushing Cabrini's lead to 16-5 at the half.
The Cavaliers outshot the Griffins 34-20 on the day, including 25-11 in the game's first 30 minutes.
Hoeffner paced the Blue and White offense, recording eight points on seven goals and a pair of draw controls. Dimmerling and Murphy finished the day with six points each. The rookie's six points and four assists marked career highs, while Murphy notched five goals and six draw controls.
Hughes matched a career high with five points on two goals and three helpers, while Rodner-Tims and senior
Emily Crouse marked season highs with three goals each.
Seniors
Gabby Lee and
Jackie Neary anchored a stifling Blue and White defense. Lee caused a career high six turnovers, while Neary paired three caused turnovers, three ground balls and three draw controls to go with a goal and an assist.
Junior
Katie Kucia and freshman
Sarah McCarron also forced two turnovers, while junior goaltender
Devon Scharf notched five saves in the victory.
Freshman Victoria Braeunle led the Griffins (4-7, 3-2 CSAC) with three goals and seven draw controls, while Brown paired two goals and two helpers. Senior Lauren Mitros earned game-high honors with eight draw controls to go with three caused turnovers and two ground balls.
Cabrini will return to action on Tuesday, as it welcomes Notre Dame of MD University (3-6, 1-3 CSAC) to Edith Robb Dixon Field. Game time is slated for 4pm.
