Softball Scores 6-2 and 9-3 Wins at Marywood

SCRANTON, PA – The Cabrini softball team extended its current win streak to eight games today, as the Cavaliers scored a pair of victories at Marywood University.

The Blue and White's 6-2 and 9-3 wins improved the Cavaliers to 12-8 overall and 8-2 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference.

Cabrini jumped ahead in the opener, scoring four runs in the top of the first inning.

The first three Cavaliers in the line-up reached base safely, including a double by junior Marissa Alpaugh, that scored junior Darian Caputo and senior Chrissy Ferraro. Two batters later, Alpaugh crossed the plate on a home run by sophomore Alexandra Schell, her second home run in as many days.

The Cavaliers added to their lead in the fourth, as freshman Aysiah Cintron's single to left field plated Schell.

The Pacers began to chip away at their deficit in the bottom of the frame, scoring both of its runs.

Cabrini added an insurance run in the top of the sixth, as Cintron's sacrifice fly scored Schell.

Senior Jess Giordano kept the Marywood offense at bay, scattering eight hits to earn the win. Giordano allowed multiple hits in an inning only once on the day.

Alpaugh, Giordano and Schell accounted for six of Cabrini's 10 hits in the win, while Cintron joined Alpaugh and Schell with two RBI each.

The Cavaliers grabbed an early lead in the nightcap, as freshman Amber Seamen's single scored senior Alexandria Ramos, who opened the inning with a double. The lead was short-lived, as the Pacers responded with an unearned run in the bottom of the second.

Marywood added another single run in the bottom of the fourth to take a slim 2-1 lead, an advantage the Cavaliers eliminated in the top of the fifth.

After recording two quick outs, the Blue and White recorded five consecutive base hits. An Alpaugh single plated Caputo before Giordano's double scored Ferraro. Ramos' second double of the game drove in Alpaugh and Giordano to give Cabrini a 5-2 lead.

The Pacers looked to rally in the fifth, loading the bases with two outs, but could only muster one run.

The score remained 5-3 until the top of the seventh, when the Blue and White recorded four runs on six hits, including three doubles.

Caputo opened the frame with a double to right center before scoring on a Ferraro single. Four batters later, Schell drove in two more runs with a double to left center that plated Alpaugh and Cintron. Senior Victoria Hall got into the act, as her double to left field drove in Seamen and Schell.

Marywood looked to rally on its final at bat, but despite loading the bases, could not cross the plate.

Eight Cavaliers recorded at least one base knock in the win, with six recording two, with Ramos and Schell driving in a pair of runs.

Freshman Casey Scheuren earned the victory in the pitcher's circle, allowing just two earned runs in the complete game.

The Blue and White will look to continue its win streak on Friday, as it welcomes Cairn University (10-9, 4-5 CSAC) to Cabrini Field. First pitch of the CSAC doubleheader is slated for 3pm.
