Women's Soccer Scores Season Opening Win In Dramatic Fashion

BRYN MAWR, PA - The Cabrini women's soccer team opened their season with a dramatic 2-1 victory over the hosting Bryn Mawr College Owls on Friday evening.

The Blue and White were led offensively by junior Diana Van Sickle and freshman Kait Cloud who each tallied a goal. Cloud's strike proved to be the game winner as she found the back of the net in the 89th minute.

Junior's Payton Greene and Katelyn Gilinger tallied three and two shots, respectively, while the Cavs as a team out shot the Owls by a 17-6 margin.

Bryn Mawr struck first as rookie Elizabeth Hummel notched her first collegiate goal in the 14th minute after making a long run down the right side of the field and finishing her shot just inside the box.

The 1-0 Bryn Mawr advantage would stand well past halftime thanks to strong defense from the hosts. Owls' sophomore keeper Kinsey Schwab highlighted the defensive effort as she made six saves on the night, but the Blue and White would ultimately spoil her efforts with a pair of late goals.

Van Sickle, after navigating to the middle of the box, delivered an unassisted equalizer in the 84th minute to knot things at one a piece. Just five minutes later, Cloud would cap the scoring and seal a dramatic come-from-behind victory for the Cavs to secure their first win of the season.

In addition to doubling the Owls' shots on goal (8-4), the Cavs also held a 7-2 advantage in corner kicks.

Cabrini will next travel to Eastern University to take on the Eagles in the 'Battle of Eagle Road' on Wednesday, September 5th. Game time is slated for 4pm.
