Radnor, PA - The Cabrini women's soccer team hung tough with the defending MAC Commonwealth champion Arcadia Knights tonight, but the veteran-laden Knights rallied for a come-from-behind 2-1 victory under the lights.
The Cavs nearly matched the Knight shot for shot in the first half and pushed across the games first goal, thanks to a perfectly placed shot from junior
Maddy Wojton, but a costly own goal from Cabrini in the second half followed by the game winner from Arcadia's Amanda McHugh just five minutes later proved to be the difference.
Wojton's goal was her first of the season and came off a misplay from the Arcadia back line. The junior took advantage and squeezed the ball past the outstretched arms of Knights' freshman keeper Brianna Williams in the 22nd minute.
Sophomore keeper
Ashley Tutzauer flashed great hands in the 34th minute as she punched away a hooking shot off the foot of Emily Readinger. The save highlighted a strong defensive first half from the Blue and White as they carried the 1-0 lead into the break.
The Knights would ultimately break through, however as an Arcadia corner kick took a bad bounce off a Cavalier defender and found pay dirt in the 52nd minute to even the score at one apiece. Just five minutes later, McHugh would tally the game winner for the visiting Knights off another perfectly placed corner from Stephanie Maggio.
Arcadia would hold the Blue and White just one shot the rest of the way to preserve the hard fought 2-1 victory.
Following tonight's action, Cabrini moves to 2-2 on the young season and will look to get back in the win column this Saturday, September 15th when they host PSU Brandywine. Game time is slated for noon.
