RADNOR, PA – The Cavaliers didn't get many scoring chances but it converted the only one that mattered tonight, as the Cabrini men's soccer team scored a 1-0 victory over the Rutgers University Camden Scarlet Raptors at Edith Robb Dixon Field.
With the win, the Cavaliers improved to 2-3 overall, while the Scarlet Raptors fell to 3-2-1.
The Cavaliers recorded just three of their seven shots in the first half, but it was the final one that proved to be the most important.
A Blue and White crossing pass was deflected by Rutgers-Camden goaltender James Brett, but Cabrini junior
Andre Justin was in the right spot at the right time, as the junior deposited the ball into the net with just seconds remaining until the halftime break.
Cabrini turned to its defensive structure in the second half to secure the victory, as it fought off 11 shots and three corner kicks by the visitor.
Sophomore goaltender
Anthony Zampirri notched four of his five saves after the break to secure his second shutout of the season.
Seven Cavaliers accounted for the Blue and White's shots, with sophomore
John Griffin joining Justin with the club's two shots on goal.
Michael Funaro and Brian Palangi led the Scarlet Raptors with four shots each, while Brett tallied one save in the loss.
The Cavaliers will look to build a win streak on Saturday, when they host Cairn University (1-3). The opening kickoff is scheduled for 3pm at Edith Robb Dixon Field.
