Women's Basketball Rolls to Convincing Win over Mighty Macs

RADNOR, PA - The Cabrini women's basketball team earned a convincing win over the visiting Immaculata University Mighty Macs this evening following an 86-56 victory in the friendly confines of Nerney Field House.

For the third game in a row, the wire-to-wire victory eluded the Cavaliers by the opening two points. In total, the Blue and White trailed for just 28 seconds and were tied only once.

Sophomore Lexi Edwards paced the offense as she netted a season high 20 points in just 17 minutes. The guard shot a near perfect 7-of-8 from the field, including 2-of-3 from beyond the arc, and connected on all four of her free throw attempts.

Junior Meghan Matthews tallied 14 points, while senior Nomi Washington added 13 points and three rebounds. Sophomore's Ashley Tutzauer and Kate Lannon chipped in 12 and 11 points, respectively. In total, nine Cavs marked the scoring column.

Cabrini started off red hot as they jumped out to an 11-6 lead, highlighted by a triple from Edwards at the eight minute mark. The real damage came throughout the remainder of the opening stanza, however as the Cavaliers rattled off a 20-to-4 run that spanned the remaining 7:21 of the quarter. In fact, the Blue and White went nearly six minutes without missing a shot, including a pair of triples, to balloon the lead to 31-10 at the end of the first.

The Cavs held steady to their 21 point lead into the halftime break and pushed their lead to 25 points at the end of the third. A strong fourth quarter effort from the Cavs, in which they outscored the Mighty Macs 21-16, delivered a convincing Atlantic East Conference win.

Overall, Cabrini secured their best field goal percentage in a game this season at 48.4 percent and set a season high with 10 made three pointers.

Immaculata's Amber Ballinger led the Mighy Macs' offense with 15 points on 4-of-11 from the field, while Theresa Kearney added 14 points and five rebounds.

Following today's action, the Blue and White improve to 9-8 overall and 4-0 in Atlantic East play. They will look to run their win streak to four games on Saturday, January 19th, when they travel to Aston, PA to take on rival Neumann University. Game time is slated for 1pm.
