Marymount's Hot 2nd Half Downs Men's Basketball 80-79

RADNOR, PA – Despite taking an eight point lead into the second half, the Cabrini men's basketball team could not cool off a hot shooting Marymount team tonight at Nerney Field House as, the Cavaliers suffered an 80-79 loss.

The loss snapped Cabrini's three game win streak and dropped the team to 3-3 in the Atlantic East Conference and 5-14 overall.

The Blue and White scored 11 of the game's first 13 points before the visiting Saints battled back. The Cavaliers shot .516 from the field in the opening 20 minutes and led by as many as nine points in the final minutes of the period.

Cabrini carried a 34-26 lead into the halftime break after holding Marymount to just 9-26 shooting before the break. The Cavaliers forced 11 first half turnovers and converted them into 14 points.

The Saints found their offensive rhythm in the second half, immediately chipping away at Cabrini's lead. A fast break pull-up jumper by junior LaDarius McCord gave the Saints a 47-46 lead at the 14:28 mark, their first lead since leading 2-1.

Senior Anthony Wright-Downing drained a three to briefly put Cabrini ahead, but Marymount responded, regaining the lead and pushing it to 60-54 midway through the half.

The Cavaliers managed to even the score four times over the next several minutes, but could not regain the lead. A pair of free throws by freshman Voshon Mack evened the score at 71 with 3:04 to play, before senior DeVahnte Mosley's lay-in gave the Blue and White a 73-71 lead at the 2:18 mark.

The lead was short-lived, as junior Ibrahim Kamara drained a triple on Marymount's next possession.

The Saints pushed their lead back to five points at 78-73 with 39 seconds to play. On Cabrini's ensuing possession, senior Ivan Robinson found Mack for a hoops and harm, but the rookie could not complete the three point play.

The Cavaliers still had a chance, as Marymount missed the front end of a 1-and-1, followed by a Wright-Downing lay-up with 10 seconds to play, pulling the Cavaliers to within 78-77.

Following a Cabrini foul, Saints freshman Xavier Reaves added two more free throws, which proved to seal the Marymount victory.

The Cavaliers shot a solid 16-29 from the floor in the second half, including 6-11 from three point range, and committed just six turnovers after the break.

The difference in the second half proved to be the Saints' offensive efficiency. Marymount shot .656 from the field, including 32 points in the paint, 16 fast break points and converted six offensive boards into 11 second chance points after the break.

Mack led the Blue and White with 23 points on 10-12 shooting and nine rebounds, while Wright-Downing added 18 points, four boards, five assists and three steals.  Fellow senior Mike Doyle added 12, while sophomore DJ Smith chipped in with nine points.

Junior Taiga Walker led the Saints (9-10, 2-4 Atlantic East) with 22 points, including 15 in the second half, while Reaves paired 19 points and 15 rebounds.

The Cavaliers will look to rebound on Saturday, as they welcome Gwynedd Mercy (13-6, 5-1 Atlantic East) to Nerney Field House. Game time is set for 2pm.

Saturday's action also marks the program's Alumni Day, as the game will be followed by the annual Alumni Game at 4pm.
