RADNOR, PA – The Cabrini men's basketball team struggled with its shooting touch in the first half and could not recover, as it suffered an 88-73 loss to Gwynedd Mercy today at Nerney Field House.
The loss dropped the Cavaliers to 5-15 overall and 3-4 in the Atlantic East Conference.
Freshman
Voshon Mack shot 7-9 from the field and led the Blue and White with 17 points and seven rebounds, while senior
Ivan Robinson notched 16 points on 5-7 shooting.
After both team exchanged early leads, the Griffins grabbed control of the scoreboard with an 8-0 run midway through the first half, taking a 22-13 lead.
Cabrini sliced its deficit back to a single point on several occasion in the first half, but could not regain the lead. After shooting just .375 in the first half, the Cavaliers trailed 37-33.
A three pointer by senior
Alsmith Saintilus evened the score at 43 at the 15-18 mark, but the Griffins regained their lead with a Clayton Wolfe triple on the ensuing possession.
Minutes later, GMercyU securely grabbed control of the action, as it used a 20-4 run to build a 69-51 lead with 8:35 to play.
The Griffins dominated the glass to the tune of a 40-24 rebounding advantage, including 11 offensive boards that led to a 12-2 advantage in second chance points.
Sophomore
DJ Smith added nine points for the Cavaliers, one more than senior
Anthony Wright-Downing, while Saintilus finished with seven points.
Jeff Seigafuse led the Griffins (14-6, 6-1 Atlantic East) with 29 points after shooting 11-16, including 6-8 from three point range. Wolfe added 21 points and a game-high 12 rebounds.
Today also marked the program's annual Alumni Day. At halftime, the program recognized Tim Anderlonis, Bill Carr, Corey Lemons,
Kevin Misevicius,
Tyheim Monroe and Aaron Walton-Moss, each of whom were named to the Colonial States Athletic Conference 25th Anniversary Men's Basketball Team.
The Cavaliers will begin a three game road trip on Wednesday, when they visit Marywood University (13-6, 5-1 Atlantic East). Game time is slated for 8pm in Scranton, PA.
