RADNOR, PA – The Cavaliers were outscored 9-4 over the final 98 seconds today, as the Cabrini men's basketball team suffered an 83-78 loss to Lancaster Bible College at Nerney Field House.
The loss dropped the Cavaliers to 2-11 on the season, while the Chargers improved to 6-5 overall.
Senior
Alsmith Saintilus led the Cavaliers with a season high 21 points, connecting on 8-12 from the field and 4-6 from three point range. Freshman
Voshon Mack added 17 points and matched Saintilus with a team high six rebounds.
Sophomore
Trey Smith chipped in with 14 points, five rebounds and five assists, while classmate
Brice Parks paired 11 points and five rebounds.
Both teams led by eight points in a first half that featured seven ties and 11 lead changes. While the Cavaliers built their advantage early in the opening half, the Chargers established theirs with just 2:33 left on the clock.
A steal by senior
Anthony Wright-Downing led to a Mack fast break bucket, sparking the Blue and White on an 8-0 run to end the half. Smith's triple in the stanza's final seconds sent the team's into the half tied at 47.
Neither team could grab control in the second half, as the much of the stanza featured a one possession difference on the scoreboard. The teams combined to lead by more than three points for less than two minutes of the second half.
The game's 10th tie came with 1:38 on the clock, as a Saintilus three pointer leveled the game at 74.
The Chargers responded with a lay-up to regain the lead. A Cabrini missed jumper and an LBC three pointer on its ensuing possession built a 79-74 lead with just 19 seconds to play.
The Blue and White committed a turnover on its next possession before the Chargers connected on its final four free throws, sending Cabrini to a 10th consecutive loss.
Cabrini struggled in the second game of this weekend's back to back contests, committing 18 turnovers, just hours after recording a season low five on Friday. The Blue and White also saw the Chargers post 17 fast break points to five for Cabrini.
Freshman Benny Raymond's 15 points paced an LBC attack that featured seven players score at least eight points. Junior Luke Beers and freshman Jordan Shewbridge added 14 points each.
The Cavaliers will turn their attention to Atlantic East Conference play on Wednesday, when they welcome Marywood University (8-5, 0-0 Atlantic East) to Nerney Field House in the second half of a women's and men's double dip.
The ladies will open the action against the Pacers at 6pm, with the men to follow at 8pm.
