Men's Soccer Rides Early Goal, Defense to 2-0 Victory

READING, PA – The Cabrini men's soccer scored an important road win in their nonconference finale tonight, topping Alvernia 2-0.

With the victory, the Cavaliers improved to 4-6-1 overall, while the Golden Wolves fell to 1-9-2.

The Blue and White got on the board less than two minutes into the game, as an Alvernia defender deflected a Cabrini cross into the back of the net.

The early goal proved to be all the Cavaliers' defense needed. Senior Mike Gould made his first start of the season and recorded six saves to post his ninth career shutout.

Four of Gould's saves came in the second period, when the Cavaliers were outshot 9-2 and fought off five Alvernia corner kicks.

Cabrini's defensive effort paid dividends on the offensive side of the pitch in the 80th minute, as freshman Tyler Tomlin found senior Andre Justin. The senior's fifth tally of the season provided an insurance goal to secure the road win.

Ryan Kuster and Nick Denlinger combined for seven of the Golden Wolves' 14 shots, while goaltender Ben Solsky made a pair of saves.

The Cavaliers will turn their full attention to Atlantic East Conference action on Wednesday, when they host defending conference champion Neumann (2-7-1). Kickoff is scheduled for 7pm at Edith Robb Dixon Field.
