Cavs Cap Nonconference Slate With 2-0 Victory Over Red Hawks

RADNOR, PA - The Cabrini women's soccer team claimed a narrow 2-0 victory over visiting Montclair State University this afternoon at Edith Robb Dixon Field. It was the Cavs first victory over the Red Hawks in program history.

Despite being outshot 6-5 and being held to just three corner kicks, the Cavalier offense netted a pair of late goals to clinch their final nonconference match of the year.

Sophomores Riley Underwood and Kait Cloud led the attack as each tallied a goal on one shot. Senior Katelyn Gilinger recorded her fourth assist of the year on Underwood's second half strike, whlie also putting a shot on frame. Junior Alex Garces and freshman Rylie Butler rounded out the Cavs to mark the shot column.

A defensive battle in the opening stanza that featured a combined two shots from both squads gave way to the second half when the Blue and White were finally able to open the scoring. As mentioned, Underwood broke the 0-0 tie in the 64th minute following a shot from Gilinger. Underwood managed to collect the ball off the rebound and push it past Monclair State's Lindsay Freewalt for the 1-0 advantage.

Following the goal, the Red Hawks turned up the offensive pressure as they tallied a pair of shots, as well as a corner kick, in the ensuing 10 minutes of action. The Cavalier back line, anchored by junior netminder Ashley Tutzauer and rookie Rebekah Cunningham, stifled the visitor's attack and allowed the Blue and White offense to continue to apply pressure of their own.

The offensive pressure paid off as Cloud took advantage of a misplayed goalkeeper throw for an easy tally in the 87th minute and handed the Cavs the eventual 2-0 final.

Tutzauer finished the game with a pair of saves for the Cavaliers en route to her fourth shutout of the season.

Following today's match, Cabrini improves to 8-2-1 overall and will look to stay hot when they open Atlantic East Conference play on Wednesday, October 9th against rival Neumann University in Aston, PA. Match time is slated for 7pm.
