Men's Basketball Falls to Albright in Stockton Tournament Opener

GALLOWAY, NJ – The Cabrini men's basketball team dropped its second consecutive result tonight, as the Cavaliers fell to Albright College 83-70 at the Stockton University Tip-Off Tournament.

With tonight's loss, the Blue and White (2-2) will face St. Joseph's College-Brooklyn (0-1) tomorrow at 1pm in the tournament consolation game. Albright will face host, Stockton (1-1), at 3pm in the championship game.

Senior Keith Blassingale led all scorers with 20 points on 9-16 shooting, while sophomore Voshon Mack added 19 points, six rebounds and four blocked shots.

Junior Brice Parks chopped in with nine points, while classmate DJ Smith paired eight points and five boards.  

Both teams went back and forth in an opening 20 minutes that featured eight ties and 24 lead changes.

While Albright built a six point lead twice during the opening frame, neither team could establish control of the action.  Albright carried a slim 37-36 lead into the halftime break, as both teams shot 46-48% from the floor.

The Lions gained control of the game in the opening minutes of the second half, using an early 10-0 spurt to build a 47-37 lead with 15:45 to play.

Back to back buckets by Blassingale and sophomore Ryan Byars cut the Blue and White deficit to six points, but Albright responded with a 15-4 run, extending their lead to 62-45 with just over 12  minutes on the clock.

Despite shooting north of .480 in the second half, the Cavaliers came no closer than nine points over the game's final 12 minutes.

Albright pressured the Blue and White into 10 second half turnovers, which the Lions converted into 14 points to go with 13 second half fast break points.

The Blue and White shot .467 from the field in the loss, but connected on just 5-19 from three point range and 9-16 from the free throw line.

Cabrini also found itself on the short end of a 45-32 rebound disparity, including a 13-4 disadvantage on the offensive glass.

Five Lions (2-0) scored in double figures, led by Samuel Majekodunmi's 19 points and five steals. Isaiah Harris added 14 points and eight rebounds in the win.

Stephane Etheart led St. Joseph's-Brooklyn with 18 points, 11 rebounds and six steals in the Bulldogs' 91-64 loss to Stockton in tonight's first game.
