ATLANTIC CITY, NJ - The Cabrini women's basketball team capped their time in the Stockton Tip-Off Tournament with a finals victory over the hosting Osprey following a 68-47 final.
The offense was paced by juniors
Kate Lannon and
Caitlin King who netted 14 and 12 points, respectively. Classmates
Lexi Edwards and
Ashley Tutzauer, along with freshman
Kai Williams, added eight points each. Fellow freshman
Katie Rodriguez tallied a game high 10 rebounds, while chipping in four points.
The Blue and White got off to a fast start as they posted a season high 26 first quarter points, while limiting Stockton to just five points.
Despite the Osprey tallying the game's first points, it was the Cavaliers who seized momentum early thanks to a Lannon three that sparked a 15-0 run across the first six minutes of play. A Stockton free throw from Emily Donzanti briefly ended the drought, but a transition layup from freshman
Miranda Liebtag kept momentum in favor of the visitors.
Cabrini ended the first stanza on a 9-2 spurt, highlighted by a triple from Liebtag and a pair of layups from Williams. In total, the Cavs defense held the Osprey to just 13.3 percent from the field and two made field goals, while the Blue and White offense made 5-8 three point attempts and shot 50 percent from the field.
The first quarter proved to be the difference as Stockton matched the Cavs point for point across the next three quarters.
The Cavalier defense continues to give opponents fits as they forced 21 turnovers on the night and have forced an average of 22 turnovers across their three games.
Stockton's Lajerah Wright and Kiley Gelston led the Osprey with eight points each, while Ionyonia Alves pulled in a team high nine rebounds in just 14 minutes.
Following today's game, the Cavs improve to 3-0 overall and will look for their fourth consecutive victory on Thursday, November 21st when they travel to Elizabethtown, PA to take on the Blue Jays. Game time is slated for 7pm.
