ELIZABETHTOWN, PA - The Cabrini women's basketball team suffered their first loss of the 2019 campaign on Thursday as they fell to the hosting Elizabethtown College Blue Jays by a 72-56 final.
Junior
Kate Lannon paced the offense with 17 points on 7-14 from the field, while classmate
Ashley Tutzauer capped the Cavaliers in double figures with 12 points and a team high six rebounds. Freshman
Miranda Liebtag added eight points.
The Blue and White struggled to find their rhythm from the field early as they shot just 24 percent in the opening half, including a 1-10 mark from beyond the arc. The Blue Jays took advantage as they outscored the Cavs 20-9 in the first quarter.
The Cabrini defense turned up the pressure in the second quarter as they held Etown to just eight points, pulling to within eight points at the intermission. Back to back layups from Lannon and sophomore
Kirsten Searcy highlighted the Cavs' quarter.
The hosts would respond coming out of the break, however as they rattled off a 10-3 run to regain control at 38-23. Despite the Cavs offense finding their groove in the second half, it proved to be too little, too late as the Blue Jays would hang on for the eventual 72-56 final.
Etown's Veronica Christ paced the hosts with 25 points on 9-14 shooting, including 3-5 from beyond the arc. Lydia Lawson added 19 points to round out the Blue Jays in double figures.
Following today's contest, the Cavaliers move to 3-1 on the young season. They will look to get back in the win column this Saturday, November 23rd, when they host New York University at Nerney Field House. Game time is slated for 1pm.
