VanSickle's Two Goals Send Cavaliers to AEC Semifinal

RADNOR, PA - The Cabrini women's soccer team used a pair of second half goals from senior Diana VanSickle to edge the No. 6 seeded Marymount Saints 2-0 in today's Atlantic East Conference (AEC) Quarterfinal.

VanSickle paced an aggressive Blue and White attack with five shots, while classmate Katelyn Gilinger and junior Maria Hagan tallied four shots each. In total, Cabrini finished with a commanding 30-10 advantage in shots, including a 14-2 mark in shots on goal.

Following a scoreless first half, VanSickle opened the scoring in the 47th minute off a well timed touch pass from Gilinger from just outside the six yard box. VanSickle delivered the ball to the lower left corner of the goal, past the arms of Marymount's Maia Pappadakis.

Cabrini wasted little time adding to its lead as just five minutes later VanSickle found the back of the net again. A through ball from junior Brianna Blair split the defense and sent VanSickle on a break away. The veteran corralled the ball and side stepped to the right just before a charging Pappadakis could secure it and shot on an open goal from 20 yards out.

The Saints, who were now forced to play catchup, attempted nine shots in the ensuing 35 minutes of play only to be denied by keeper Ashley Tutzauer. The junior ended with a pair of saves en route to her eighth shutout of the season to anchor an impressive day from the Blue and White defense.

Marymount's Pappadakis would finish with 12 saves after facing 30 shots.

Following today's match, the Cavaliers improve to 13-3-2 overall and stand just one victory shy of matching the programs record for wins in a season. They will aim to upend the No. 2 seeded Wesley College Wolverines in the AEC Semifinal when they travel to Dover, DE on Wednesday, November 6th. A game time has yet to be announced.
