ROSEMONT, PA - The Cabrini women's basketball team improved to 5-1 this evening following a comfortable 86-58 victory over the hosting Rosemont College Ravens.
Juniors
Kate Lannon and
Lexi Edwards paced the offense with a team high 14 points. Lannon added four rebounds and four steals, while Edwards chipped in a pair of assists. Classmate
Ashley Tutzauer rounded out the Cavaliers in double figures with 10 points. In total 17 different Cavs saw the floor, while 16 marked the scoring column.
The Blue and White jumped out to a 9-4 lead, highlighted by a triple from Tutzauer, but the Ravens responded with a three ball of their own on their ensuing possession. A layup from Rosemont's Ke'aloh Naone-Carter evened things at nine a piece with 2:49 left in the quarter, but a quick 6-0 run for the Cavs handed them a 15-9 lead heading into the second stanza.
Rosemont would pull to within five with just over five minutes left in the second quarter following a three pointer from Naone-Carter, but a 18-3 run punctuated by a driving layup from Lannon handed the Cavaliers the momentum and the 41-21 advantage with just over 30 seconds remaining in the half.
Cabrini continued to find the bottom of the net in the second half as they would eventually extend their lead to a game high 31 points following a three from sophomore Abigal Fricke with just under four minutes left in the game. The Cavs would coast to the aforementioned 86-58 final.
As a team, the Blue and White recorded a season high 23 assists and 48 rebounds, while also tying their season high with 24 turnovers forced. Junior
Caitlin King led the way with four assists, while rookie
Katie Rodriguez pulled in a team high seven rebounds.
Naone-Carter led the hosts with 19 points, while teammate Angel Ricks tallied a double double with 11 points and 15 rebounds.
As mentioned, following tonight's victory the Cavaliers improve to 5-1 overall. They will look to add to their win total this Saturday, November 30th when they host Middlebury College at Nerney Field House. Game time is slated for 1pm.
