Field Hockey Season Ends on OT Goal in Tourney Semfinal

SCRANTON, PA – The Cabrini field hockey team took top seeded Marywood to overtime in tonight's Atlantic East Conference Tournament semifinal, but a 61st minute goal gave the Pacers a 2-1 win, ending the Cavaliers' 2019 season.

The loss closed Cabrini's season with a 3-16 overall record.

The loss also closed the careers of the Blue and White's seven seniors, Trisha Billig, Annsley Dicton, Holly Gremmel, Katie Heck, Brittney Morello, Noelia Ramirez and Lauren Vanstone.

The group has led the Cavaliers to 27 wins and recorded 33 points on 14 goals and five assists with 164 saves.

Marywood opened the scoring in the 23rd minute, when Jenna Dickey's pass to Lindsey Quinn led to the game's first goal.

After being outshot 3-0 in the opening 15 minutes, the Cavaliers tightened their defense, holding Marywood to just one second quarter shot.

Unfortunately for Cabrini, the Pacers made the most of their attempt. Marywood opened the scoring in the 23rd minute, when Jenna Dickey's pass to Lindsey Quinn led to the game's first goal.

The Cavaliers turned up their offensive pressure in the third quarter, outshooting the Pacers 5-2 and forcing four penalty corners.

Cabrini's pressure paid off in the 43rd minute, when Vanstone's crossing pass found junior Gabby Thompson on the far post to even the score.

With just 15 minutes to play, the Blue and White stood on the verge of a major upset and berth in the conference championship.

Marywood turned the tables on the Cavaliers in the fourth, dominating the action to the tune of a 6-0 advantage in shots and four penalty corners.

The Blue and White defense was up to the task, as senior goaltender Noelia Ramirez recorded three of her seven saves in the final frame to keep the score deadlocked at 1-1 at the end of regulation.

The Pacers forced their seventh penalty corner in the opening minute of overtime and made the most of the opportunity, as Quinn found Kenzie Drew for the game-winning goal.

Marywood outshot the Blue and White 13-6 on the night and recorded seven penalty corners to five for Cabrini. Freshman Olivia Sims led the Cavaliers with four shots.

Dickey led the Pacers (15-3) with five shots, while goaltender Kerri Mountz was needed for just one save.

With the win, Marywood advances to Saturday's championship game, where it will host number two seed and defending champion Wesley (12-7).
