RADNOR, PA - The Cabrini women's basketball team collected their second consecutive victory as they upended the Kean University Cougars by a 75-57 final.
The Cougars, who entered the game sporting a 7-1 overall record, struggled to handle the Cavaliers' stingy defense as they were limited to just 28.6 percent from the floor. The first quarter highlighted the Cougars' struggles as they connected on just 2 of 15 field goal attempts.
Junior
Ashley Tutzauer led all scorers with 19 points in 25 minutes, while classmate
Kate Lannon finished right behind her with 18 points and a team high nine rebounds. Junior
Lexi Edwards and freshman
Miranda Liebtag rounded out the scorers in double figures with 11 and 10 points, respectively.
Kean's Payce Lange opened the scoring, which would stand as the visitors only lead, just over a minute into the contest. A jumper from Lannon on the Cavs' ensuing possession kicked off a 10-0 run with four different scorers finding the bottom of the net. The Blue and White would cap the quarter with back-to-back baskets from Liebtag and Tutzauer for a 17-4 advantage.
The Cavs stayed hot in the second quarter as Lannon opened the stanza with a triple to push the Cavs' lead to 16 points. A layup from Lange only served to interrupt the scoring for the Cavaliers as a layup from freshman
Katie Rodriguez preceded back-to-back threes from Edwards and Tutzauer. Cabrini would eventually push their lead to 27 points off a layup from rookie
Hannah Fenstermacher before ending the half with a commanding 44-19 lead.
The Cougars would go on to trim their deficit to 15 points midway through the third quarter, before the Cavs responded with another run to balloon their lead to a game high 28 points with just over seven minutes left in regulation. The Cavs would coast to the eventual 75-57 final.
Lange would go on to finish with a team high 17 points and 10 rebounds to pick up the double double, while teammate Cindy Foresta added 16 points and nine rebounds.
Following today's game, the Cavs improve to 7-2 overall and 2-1 in Nerney Field House. They will look to stay hot at home when they welcome Arcadia, Eastern and Rowan on December 30th for the Cabrini University Classic. The Cavs tip off action against the Knights at 2pm in Nerney Field House.
