Cavs Tame Bulldogs Behind Big Second Half

BROOKLYN, NY - The Cabrini women's basketball team picked up another road victory this afternoon after topping the Brooklyn College Bulldogs by way of an 86-61 final.

Junior Lexi Edwards led all scorers with a game high 18 points, including 4-4 from beyond the arc, while classmate Kate Lannon finished with 17 points and a game high eight rebounds. Sophomore Kirsten Searcy rounded out the Cavaliers in double figures with 10 points.

As a team, the Blue and White turned in a dominant performance on the glass as they finished with a 39-23 advantage in rebounds leading to a 21-3 advantage in second chance points. The Cavs also tallied a season high 13 steals helping them to 27 points off turnovers.

Following a tightly contested first half in which the Cavs held a narrow 40-35 edge, the Blue and White opened the third quarter with a 17-3 run, highlighted by a pair of threes from Edwards and classmate Ashley Tutzauer. A fastbreak jumper from Searcy punctuated the momentum swinging run to put the Cavs up 57-38 with just under four minutes left in the quarter.

After swapping baskets to end the third quarter, sophomore Dani Tyrell opened the final stanza with a three to push the Cavs lead to 20 points. With a comfortable lead, the Blue and White were able to coast to the eventual 86-61 victory.

Brooklyn's Chanel Jemmott paced the hosts with 13 points in 19 minutes, while Taylor George and Ericka James rounded out the Bulldogs in double figures with 12 and 11 points, respectively.

Following today's game the Cavaliers improve to 6-2 overall and 3-1 on the road. They will look to add to their win total after a short break when they host Kean University on Friday, December 20th at Nerney Field House. Game time is slated for 2pm.
