Game Recap: Basketball (Men) |

Men's Basketball Suffers 89-79 Senior Night Loss to Neumann

RADNOR, PA – The Cavaliers could not overcome their first half offensive struggles tonight, as the Cabrini men's basketball team suffered an 89-79 loss to Neumann University tonight at Nerney Field House.

The loss dropped the Blue and White to 6-18 overall and 4-7 in the Atlantic East Conference.

Despite the loss, the Cavaliers still have a shot at securing a place in the inaugural Atlantic East Tournament with one game left in the regular season. As a fifth or sixth seed, Cabrini would face a first round road contest on Monday night at either Wesley or Marymount.

Prior to tonight's game, the Cavaliers honored their six seniors, Mike Doyle, Anthony Linder-Creo, DeVahnte Mosley, Ivan Robinson, Alsmith Saintilus and Anthony Wright-Downing.

As a group, this class has led the Cavaliers to 66 victories including the 2018 Colonial States Athletic conference championship. In their 328 games in the blue and white, the seniors have amassed 2,484 points, 873 rebounds, 576 assists and 295 steals.

Wright-Downing, who was also individually recognized before tip for surpassing 1,000 career points, led the Blue and White with 25 points, nine rebounds and five assists. Freshman Voshon Mack added 18 points, while Doyle chipped in with a season-high 12 points.

The Cavaliers built an early lead, but with the score tied at 25 the Knights pulled away. Neumann held Cabrini scoreless for north of five minutes and used a 12-0 spurt to build a 37-25 lead with 3:13 left in the first half.

The Cavaliers closed the half looking up at a 39-29 deficit after shooting just .361 in the first half, including 2-12 from three point range.

While the Blue and White looked to make one of its patented second half runs, the Knights had other ideas. Neumann opened the second stanza on with a 16-5 run to establish a game-high 21 point lead less than four minutes into the second half.

The Cavaliers battled back, eventually whittling its deficit down to 78-68 after a Mack bucket with just under two minutes to play.

A Saintilus triple with 91 seconds to play cut the Neumann advantage to 80-71 with 91 seconds to play, but the Knights connected on 9-12 from the charity stripe in the final 90 seconds to hold on to the win.

Junior Isaiah Wilmore scored 21 points to lead four Knights (12-12, 3-10 Atlantic East) in double figures. Classmate Raquan Brown-Johnson added 19 points and was one of three Knights to secure 11 rebounds.

The Cavaliers will look to secure their postseason berth on Saturday, as they head south to Alexandria, VA to face Marymount University (13-11, 6-5 Atlantic East). Tip is slated for 3pm.
