AUBURNDALE, FL - The Cabrini baseball team picked up their fourth consecutive victory this afternoon thanks to an 8-1 final over the Alma College Scots.
A crooked fourth inning propelled the Blue and White as they struck for six runs, highlighted by a pair of two RBI's hits from junior
Joe Aurite and sophomore
JD Barrett, respectively.
Barrett paced the Cavalier offense as he finished the day 2-5 with four RBI, including a double in the eighth inning. Aurite, meanwhile, led the Cavs with three hits, while driving in a pair and scoring a pair of runs.
Classmate
Mack McKisson added a hit and RBI's, as well as two runs scored and a stolen base. In total, eight different Cavaliers marked the hit column, while five different Cavs scored a run.
After a scoreless first three innings, Priest started the fourth inning rally with a ground rule double. Junior's
Juan Familia and
Henry Peguero loaded the bases with a walk and hit by pitch, respectively. Junior Shuan Stackhouse pushed across the games first run thanks to a bunt single, while Aurite followed with the aforementioned two RBI double down the right field line.
An RBI single off the bat of McKisson handed the Cavs a 4-0 lead, still with just one out. A two RBI single from Barrett would cap the Cavs inning and push the lead to 6-0.
Alma got on the board in the top of the fifth, but the Cavaliers would get the run back, and more, in the eighth inning.
Barrett's double to center in the eighth put the Cavs up comfortably at 8-1, while junior
Ivan Varela would shut the door with a clean bottom of the ninth.
The Cavaliers' bullpen again shut down their opposition as sophomore
Drew Swire, freshman
Stephen Scevoli and Varela combined for three scoreless innings in which they allowed just one hit and struck out four.
Sophomore
Andrew Corso earned his first victory of the season thanks to six strong innings. The Lancaster native allowed just three hits and one run (unearned), while striking out three.
Following today's game, the Blue and White improve to 7-2 overall and run their win streak to four games. They'll cap their time in Florida tomorrow morning with a 9:15 matchup against Hanover College.
