RADNOR, PA – The Cabrini women's lacrosse team found its offensive rhythm in the early going and never looked back, as the Cavaliers rolled to a 20-9 victory over Widener tonight at Edith Robb Dixon Field.
Seven Cavaliers marked the scoring column tonight, led by senior
Avery Murphy and freshman
Dana Carlson, who combined for 17 points in the victory.
Murphy paired four goals and five assists to go with five caused turnovers, four draw controls and three ground balls. Carlson added a season high seven goals, each coming in the first half, and six draw controls.
Sophomore
Ashley Tutzauer added three goals and two helpers, two draw controls and two caused turnovers. Junior
Lauren Hughes and sophomore
Taylor Dimmerling also chipped in with two goals.
The Blue and White defense was stingy, as it forced a season-high 19 turnovers, with 11 players forcing at least one miscue.
Freshman
Sam Hamalak added four saves to collect the victory, before senior
Devon Scharf notched three stops in relief.
The Pride jumped on the board first, but the Cavaliers responded in a big way, reeling off 10 consecutive goals.
In a span of 4:20, Cabrini netted six of those goals, with Carlson scoring four, while Murphy added a goal and two assists.
A Cabrini yellow card gave Widener a chance to get back into the game, but the Cavaliers turned the tables. Carlson and Tutzauer combined for three woman-down goals in 31 seconds, pushing the lead to 9-1 midway through the half.
Carlson completed her scoring just 36 seconds later.
Widener ended the Cabrini scoring streak with a pair of goals, but three late goals, extended the Cabrini cushion to 14-4. Following a Pride goal, Murphy closed the period on a high note, as the senior netted an unassisted tally in the final seconds of the first half.
Murphy and Dimmerling added goals in the opening minutes of the second half, as the lead swelled to a game-high 18-6.
Senior
Emma Rodner-Tims joined Murphy and Hughes with second half scores.
Senior Kelly Lynch led the Pride (2-3) with five goals and four helpers, while junior Melanie Bert paired two goals and eight draw controls. Senior goaltender Katie Hayes posted eight saves in the loss.
The Cavaliers will return to action on Tuesday, when they play host to No. 18 William Smith (2-1), the Cavaliers' third ranked opponent of the early season. Game time is set for 3:30pm at Edith Robb Dixon Field.
