Offense Thrives in Double Header Sweep of Wolverines

DOVER, DE - The Cabrini baseball team scored a total of 43 runs in this afternoon's convincing double header sweep of the Wesley College Wolverines.

The Blue and White pushed across 22 runs in game one and nearly matched their output in game two as they scored 21 runs to cruise to a pair of comfortable victories.

Game One: Cabrini 22, Wesley 4
The Cavaliers needed just 13 hits to tally a season high 22 runs in their game one victory over the Wolverines. The offense was aided, however, by nine Wesley errors and 10 walks.

Sophomore Mack McKisson paced the offense after he finished 3-4 with four runs and three RBI's, including his first home run of the season. Classmate JD Barrett tallied two hits, while also scoring four runs and driving home three.

Freshman Joey Moyer, sophomore Steven Priest and junior Henry Peguero rounded out the Cavaliers with multi-hit performances.

Junior Andrew Corso collected his third win of the season thanks to five strong innings in which he allowed just two runs and three hits. Freshman Jonathan Baker and junior Mike Kaczenski combined for two innings of relief and three strikeouts.

The Blue and White found their offensive rhythm early as they pushed across four runs in the top of the first and followed it up with seven runs in the top of the second to take an early 11-1 lead. McKisson's two run homer and Barrett's bases clearing double highlighted the crooked frames. The Wolverines had opportunities to stop the bleeding, but five errors in the opening two frames, including four in the second inning, proved especially costly.

Cabrini would sandwich a seven run fifth inning with a pair of runs in the third and sixth to balloon their lead to 20, before the Wolverines pushed across two runs in the bottom of the seventh.

Wesley starter Joey Strazza was saddled with the loss after allowing 10 runs, eight earned, in 1.1 innings.

Game Two: Cabrini 21, Wesley 9
The offense followed their game one performance with an equally as dominant performance in the night cap as they totaled a season best 22 hits, resulting in 21 runs.

Junior Joe Aurite was the key cog in game two as the second baseman finished 3-4 with four runs and a career best six RBI's, highlighted by a pair of home runs. Moyer collected a team best and career high four hits, including three runs, two RBI's and two stolen bases.

McKisson tallied three hits and two RBI's, while six additional Cavs collected two hits a piece. Sophomore Steven Priest finished with three RBI's to highlight the bunch.

Freshman Mike Gama earned the victory in relief of junior starter Drew Jackson after being removed in the second inning. Gama tossed two perfect innings and struck out four for his first victory of the year.

The offense again started quickly as the Cavs struck for eight runs in the first three innings, but the Wolverines answered with three runs in the bottom of the second and another in the third to cut their deficit to 8-4.

After an RBI single from Moyer, followed by an RBI walk from Barrett to take a 10-4 lead, Wesley again answered as they pushed across four runs in the bottom half of the frame to trim the Cavs' lead to 10-8.

The Blue and White would put the game out of reach thanks to a four run top of the fifth, followed by a seven run top of the seventh to expand their lead to a sizable 21-8 advantage. Another late run from Wesley would cap the game's scoring in the bottom of the eighth.

Wolverines' starter Dustin Sutton collected the loss after allowing eight runs, seven earned, in three innings of work.

Overall, the Cavaliers totaled 43 runs on the day, including 35 hits, eight doubles, three home runs, and nine stolen bases,

Following the offensive outburst, the Cavs improve to 14-4 overall and 4-0 in Atlantic East Conference play. They will look for their seventh consecutive victory on Monday, March 25th when they host the Muhlenberg College Mules at Cabrini Carroll Field. First pitch is slated for 3pm.
