GLENSIDE, PA – The Cabrini women's lacrosse team built an early lead and rode it to a 19-5 victory at Arcadia University this afternoon.
With the win, the Blue and White improved to 5-4 on the year.
Five Cavaliers marked the scoring column in the victory, led by senior
Avery Murphy. The senior finished the day with five goals, an assist, nine ground balls, eight draw controls and three caused turnovers.
Sophomores
Taylor Dimmerling and
Ashley Tutzauer joined freshman
Shea Neary with three goals each, while junior
Lauren Hughes and freshman
Dana Carlson added two goals each.
Neary added seven draw controls and five caused turnovers, while Tutzauer paired five caused turnovers and six ground balls. Hughes also scooped five ground balls, as every Cavalier who saw action recorded at least one ground ball.
Freshman
Sam Hamalak earned the victory in the Cabrini cage, notching a pair of saves.
The Blue and White dominated the first half from the opening whistle, as Hughes opened the scoring just 19 seconds after the opening whistle.
The Knights evened the score three minutes later, before the Cavaliers scored eight consecutive goals. Among those goals, six came in a span of just three minutes, as Cabrini extended its lead to 9-1.
Arcadia responded with back to back goals, but the Blue and White netted five of the final six goals of the stanza to carry a 14-4 cushion into the halftime break.
Cabrini outshot the Knights 47-12 in the game, including 36-7 in the opening 30 minutes. The Cavaliers pressured the home team into 34 turnovers, with 22 coming before the break, and forced Arcadia into completing just 5-18 clear attempts in the first half and 13-28 on the day.
Jess Kaye scored two goals for Arcadia (0-7), while Veandra Selby recorded 18 saves.
The Blue and White will return to Edith Robb Dixon Field on Wednesday, when it plays host to Muhlenberg University (5-2). Game time is set for 3:30pm.
