RADNOR, PA - The Cabrini softball team fell on the short end of a pair of pitchers' duels today at Cabrini Field.
The Blue and White surrendered a late game-winning two run in the opener, falling to Haverford 3-2 in game one, before its late rally fell short in the 3-1 nightcap loss.
With today's losses the Cavaliers fell to 8-9 on the season.
Game 1
The Cavaliers gained an early advantage, as a single up the middle off the bat of junior
Alexandra Schell scored sophomore
Aysiah Cintron.
The Fords evened the score in the top of the third on an RBI ground out.
Cabrini never regained the lead, as it recorded just two base hits in the third, fourth and fifth innings.
Haverford took advantage in the top of the sixth, as a two run homer by sophomore Emma Souter proved to be the difference in the game.
The Blue and White looked to rally in the bottom of the seventh, as sophomore
Casey Scheuren reached with a one out double and advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt.
Senior
Darian Caputo's single to left scored Scheuren before the inning came to an end.
Caputo finished the game with two of Cabrini's seven hits, while freshman hurler Grace Stairker allowed three earned runs on 10 hits with three strikeouts in the loss.
Game 2
The Fords took an early lead in the nightcap, taking advantage of a Cabrini defensive miscue in the top of the first inning.
Haverford extended its lead in the fifth, as three consecutive two out base knocks led to two runs and a 3-0 lead.
The Cavaliers had trouble mounting a comeback, as the home squad recorded just four hits in the loss, each coming in different innings.
Cabrini finally got on the board in the bottom of the sixth, as a two out double by sophomore
Amber Seamen scored Cintron, who drew a walk to open the inning.
The Blue and White tried to draw even in the bottom of the seventh. Schell drew a free pass with one out, followed by a Scheuren single, but both runners were stranded after a strikeout and fly ball.
Scheuren suffered the loss in the pitcher's circle after allowing two earned runs on eight hits.
The Cavaliers have little time to regroup, as they will welcome York College to Cabrini Field on Sunday at 1pm.
