Diamond Cavs Run Win Streak to Nine Games Following Sweep of Mighty Macs

RADNOR, PA - The Cabrini baseball team stayed red hot this afternoon as they swept the second place Immaculata University Mighty Macs in an Atlantic East Conference double header.

Game One: Cabrini 3, Immaculata 2
The Blue and White used a pair of sixth inning runs to cap a come-from-behind 3-2 victory in game one.

Senior Tyler Norris powered the offense as the outfielder made his return to the lineup and finished 3-3 with a run and two RBI's. Norris highlighted his game one performance with a pair of RBI doubles.

Freshmen Joey Moyer and Brandon Loner, along with sophomore Mack McKisson, rounded out the Cavs to mark the hit column. McKisson high pointed the bunch with a double and two runs scored.

The Cavs received a strong start from Andrew Corso who secured his team leading fourth win of the season. The junior logged six innings and allowed three hits and two earned, while striking out six. Senior Tyler Ronayne would collect the save after retiring the Mighty Macs' lineup on strikes in the top of the seventh.

Cabrini opened up the scoring in the bottom of the first after McKisson lined a double to left center to start the two out rally. Norris followed with the first of two aforementioned doubles to plate McKisson and hand the Cavs the 1-0 lead.

Immaculata would answer, however, as they pushed across a run in the third and fifth to take a 2-1 lead.

Down to their final six outs, the Blue and White mounted their comeback. McKisson took advantage of a dropped fly ball by the Immaculata left fielder to open the frame with a runner on second. Norris promptly brought him home with his second double of the day to even to score at 2-2.

Following a single off the bat of Loner to move Norris to third, junior Shaun Stackhouse stepped to the plate after being called upon to pinch hit. The speedy outfielder executed the squeeze play to perfection as his bunt trickled to the first base side of the pitchers mound, allowing Norris to score easily.

Ronayne would enter in the ensuing frame and strikeout the side to collect his first save of the season.

Game Two: Cabrini 5, Immaculata 2
The Cavaliers cruised to the game two victory behind some early offense and stout pitching, led by junior Kyran Weemaels and sophomore Ray Lutick. The pair combined for 7.1 innings and allowed just two runs (zero earned), while striking out eight.

Lutick would earn the victory, his third of the season, after coming on in relief of Weemaels.

Norris, Stackhouse and sophomore Steven Priest each collected two hits, but it was Moyer that delivered the big blow with a bases clearing triple in the fourth.

Norris kicked off the scoring for the Diamond Cavs with a solo home run in the second, while sophomore JD Barrett doubled the lead in the third inning following an error by the Mighty Macs' left fielder, allowing junior Henry Peguero to score.

Moyers' three RBI triple in the fourth punctuated the Cavs' scoring to hand the hosts a 5-0 lead.

Immaculata would add a run in the fifth and sixth to cut their deficit to 5-2, but Ronayne and sophomore Drew Swire would shut the door as they combined for 1.2 innings of relief. Ronayne entered for the last out of game two following a pair of Mighty Macs' base runners to collect his second save of the day.

After today's action, the Cavaliers improve to league best 17-4 overall and 6-0 in Atlantic East Conference play, while also running their win streak to a program record nine games. They will look to keep things rolling on Monday, April 1st when they travel to Montclair, NJ to face Montclair State University. First pitch is slated for 3:30pm.
