WILLIAMSPORT, PA - The Cabrini baseball team stayed hot this afternoon as they reeled off their seventh win out of their last eight games thanks to a 3-1 final over the hosting Penn College Wildcats.
The Cavs received a strong start on the bump from
Jonathan Baker as the freshman tossed six strong innings of one run ball. The rookie scattered five hits and struck out two, without issuing a walk.Following today's start, Baker has allowed just two free passes in 18.2 innings.
Freshman
Mike Gama and senior
Tyler Ronayne combined for the final three innings as the pair allowed just two hits and three baserunners.
Freshman
Joey Moyer led the offense as he collected half of the Cavaliers' hits on the afternoon, finishing 2-4 with one RBI. Sophomore
Mack McKisson and junior
Joe Aurite rounded out the Cavs to mark the hit column. Aurite, along with classmate
Shaun Stackhouse and sophomore
Steven Priest scored the Cavs three runs.
The first five innings of action proved to be a pitchers dual as neither starter had allowed a run, but the Blue and White finally broke through in the top of the sixth when the Wildcats dipped into their bullpen.
Stackhouse led off the inning with a base on balls and was quickly moved to second following a sac bunt from junior
Henry Peguero. A wild pitch and walk to Priest put runners on the corners with one out when Aurite put the ball in play to the second baseman. With a little luck, the ball made its way past the Wildcats' infielder for an E4 and allowed Stackhouse to score and hand the Cavs a 1-0 lead.
Moyer follwed with a sharp single to left to plate Priest and move Aurite to second. A defensive indifference allowed Moyer and Aurite to move to second and third, respectively, before sophomore
JD Barrett lofted a ball to right for a sacrifice fly and a 3-0 Cavalier lead.
Penn College would escape further damage and get a run back in their half of the frame thanks to a solo shot from Brian Kittle. The Wildcats would threaten following the homer with back-to-back baserunners before Baker induced a soft grounder back to himself for the final out of the inning.
The 3-1 Cavalier lead would hold steady thanks to strong work out of the 'pen from Gama and Ronayne.
Following today's game, the Cavs improve to 25-7 overall. They will wrap up their conference slate on Monday, April 22nd when they travel to Marywood University to take on the Pacers for a doubleheader. First pitch of game one is slated for noon.
