IMMACULATA, PA – The Cavaliers secured the number three seed in the upcoming Atlantic East Conference Tournament today, after the Cabrini softball team suffered a pair of losses at Immaculata University.
Today's results dropped the Blue and White to 19-15 overall and 5-5 in conference play. Cabrini will return to Immaculata on Friday for the first round of the tournament,where it will face fifth seeded Wesley at 2pm and the host Mighty Macs at 4pm.
Junior
Alexandra Schell entered the Cabrini record book in the night cap, as the junior's second double of the game marked the 100th base hit of her career.
Game 1: Immaculata 3, Cabrini 0
The Blue and White never found its offensive rhythm in the opener, as Immaculata pitcher Jessica Bormann held the Cavaliers to just three hits. Just one Cavaliers advanced beyond first base, as sophomore
Amber Seamen found her way to third after a two out error in the top of the seventh.
The Mighty Macs took advantage of their dominant pitching performance, scoring one run in the first and two insurance runs in the sixth.
Sophomore
Aysiah Cintron and freshman
Kaitlyn Martin joined Seamen with base hits, while freshman
Grace Stairiker suffered the loss after allowing three earned runs on six base hits.
Game 2: Immaculata 6, Cabrini 1
The Cavaliers found some offense in the top of the first, as Cintron opened the game with a single before Schell joined the century club with a double. Senior
Darian Caputo scored the game's first run one batter later, on Seamen's sacrifice fly.
Unfortunately, the Blue and White could not sustain its offense, as it recorded just three more hits over the next six innings.
Again, the Mighty Macs took advantage, scoring one run in the first, two in the third and three in the fifth.
Schell accounted for two of the Cavaliers' five hits, with Cintron, Martin and classmate
Emily Wargo recording the other three.
Sophomore
Casey Scheuren allowed six earned runs on seven hits with five strikeouts.
The Cavaliers will close their regular season tomorrow, when they play host to Lebanon Valley College (16-18, 6-8 MAC Commonwealth). First pitch is scheduled for 3pm at Cabrini Field.
