RADNOR, PA - The Cabrini baseball team capped their regular season with a dominant 13-6 victory over conference foe Immaculata University.
The Cavaliers yielded just three runs through the first eight frames as freshman
Jonathan Baker, sophomore
Ray Lutick and freshman
Mike Gama combined to allow just eight hits and strike out seven. Baker earned the start and turned in 4.1 innings, making just one mistake that ended in a three run home run.
Lutick came on in relief and secured the victory, his fifth of the season, after 2.2 innings and one hit.
Offensively the Blue and White were led by freshman
Brandon Loner after finishing 2-5, including a double, with three RBI's. Senior
Tyler Norris matched Loner's three RBI's while also smashing his team leading fifth homerun of the season. Freshman
Garrett Laraia, sophomore
Brendan Van Belle and junior
Henry Peguero rounded out the Cavs with multi-hit days as each tallied a pair of hits.
Cabrini opened up the scoring in the bottom of the first after sophomore
Mack McKisson, Laraia and Van Belle loaded the bases for
JD Barrett. The sophomore worked a walk to force home the game's first run. Loner follwed with a double over the head of the center fielder to put the Cavs up 3-0, while Norris capped the scoring courtesy of a sac fly to plate Barrett.
After the Diamond Cavs pushed the score to 5-0 after the second inning, Immaculata trimmed their deficit to 5-3 thanks to Tom Prato's aforementioned three run homerun. The Blue and White would get one run back in the bottom of the third, however, thanks to an RBI double from Peguero to score junior
Shaun Stackhouse.
The Cavs would put the game away in the middle innings as they scored two in the fifth, four in the sixth and one in the seventh to balloon their lead to 13-3. Norris' fifth homerun of the year highlighted the Cavalier run.
The Mighty Macs would rally for three runs in the top of the ninth as they clubbed three consecutive doubles to open the inning. The late run wouldn't be enough, however, as senior
Tyler Ronayne worked out of trouble to preserve the 13-6 final.
Prior to today's game, the Cavs also celebrated the careers of senior
Tyler Norris and
Tyler Ronayne. Norris, a 2017 All-CSAC Honorable Mention honoree, owns the program record for career hits with 110, while Ronayne is the program leader with eight saves. These men have continued the tradition of excellence at Cabrini by helping to guide a third year program to 58 total victories, including a program best 29-7 record this season.
As mentioned, with today's victory, the Cavaliers improve to 29-7 overall. They will take a short break as they prepare for the Atlantic East Conference Tournament as the No. 1 seed. They will be back in action on Friday, May 3rd at Cabrini-Carroll Field when they take on Wesley College at 9am.
