Women's Lacrosse Conference Win Streak Snapped in Loss to Marywood

RADNOR, PA – The Cabrini women's lacrosse team saw its 58 game conference in streak come to an end today, as the Cavaliers suffered a 15-14 loss to Marywood tonight at Edith Robb Dixon Field.

The loss drops the Blue and White to 5-7 overall, while evening its Atlantic East Conference record at 1-1. The conference loss is Cabrini's first since falling to these same Pacers 16-5 on March 17, 2012.

Sophomore Ashley Tutzauer provided most of the Cabrini offense. Scoring four goals to go with four draw controls and two caused turnovers. Freshman Shea Neary added three goals and five draw controls, while classmate Dana Carlson scored twice.

Sophomore Taylor Dimmerling caused three turnovers, one more than classmate Sarah McCarron, while senior Avery Murphy chipped in with five draw controls and four ground balls.

Freshman goaltender Sam Hamalak recorded 12 saves in the loss.

With the score tied at 2-2, the Cavaliers established some momentum midway through the first half, as Carlson, senior Emma Rodner-Tims and junior Lauren Hughes scored three unanswered goals to give Cabrini a 5-2 lead at the 14:58 mark.

Marywood scored two of the next three goals to cut its deficit to 6-5, but Neary netted two goals in a 37 second span to rebuild the three goal cushion. A late Pacers marker sent the teams into the halftime break with Cabrini holding a slim 8-6 lead.

Marywood wasted little time leveling the game after the break, scoring the first two goals in less than two minutes. Goal by Murphy and Neary put the Blue and White ahead 10-8, but two Pacers goals again evened the score before Tutzauer put her mark on the game.

The sophomore scored Cabrini's next four goals, including three that game the Cavaliers one goal leads. Her final two tallies came at the 10:19 and 8:49 marks, putting the home team ahead 14-12.

Unfortunately, that would be the last time the Cavaliers found the back of the net, as Marywood converted three free position shots in the final nine minutes, including the game-winner with 2:28 to play.

Cabrini had its chances to record goals in the game's final minutes, as it attempted six of its 43 shots in the final 6:19, just one was on target with two hitting the posts.

The Cavaliers outshot the Pacers 43-32 on the night, and were plus seven in ground balls (23-16) and plus four in draw controls (17-13), but it was the free position shots, where the Blue and White fell short. Marywood converted nine of its 17 chances, including 5-11 in the second half, while Cabrini converted just 4-14.

Junior Zoe Simeone led Marywood (7-4, 2-0 Atlantic East) with five goals, while classmate Molly Yelencsics added three. Fellow junior Gwyneth Gleason studded the stat sheet with two goals, seven draw controls, three ground balls and three caused turnovers. Classmate Mary Leahy earned the victory after recording nine saves.

The Blue and White will face another tough conference foe on Saturday, as it looks to snap its three game losing streak. The Cavaliers will pay a visit to Aston, PA at 1pm to face Neumann University (8-4, 1-0 Atlantic East).
