No. 7 Men's Lacrosse Finds its Offense in 20-5 Win over Neumann

RADNOR, PA – After a slow start the Cabrini men's lacrosse team found its offense, erupting for 14 second half goals en route to a 20-5 win over Neumann University today at Edith Robb Dixon Field.

The win improved the No. 7 Cavaliers to 10-2 overall and 3-0 in the Atlantic East Conference.

Despite outshooting the Knights 20-7 in the opening 15 minutes of action, the Cavaliers found the back of the net just twice, as junior Jakob Klein and senior Bill Morgan opened and closed the period with goals.

Morgan added his second marker just two minutes into the second quarter, before Neumann's Drew Conlon put the Knights on the board.  Both teams exchanged goals, before senior Nicholas Waligurski and sophomore Kyle Tucker marked the scoring column in the final 2:10 of the frame, giving the Blue and White a 6-2 lead at the half.

Cabrini found its shooting touch during the halftime break, and it showed on the scoreboard, as the Cavaliers opened the third quarter with five unanswered goals in a span of 5:04. Following a Neumann goal, the Cavaliers closed the period with three goals in three minutes, extending their lead to 14-3 with just 15 minutes to play.

The Cavaliers finished the day with 78 shots, the most the team has recorded since tallying 81 in a 27-2 win at Rosemont on April 10, 2013. Cabrini's 20 goals also tied a season-high, while its four man-up goals, 45 ground balls and 12 caused turnovers also ranked among the team's top performances of the season.

Klein and Tucker led the Cavaliers with six points each, combining for six goals and six assists. Morgan finished with three goals, while Krug and sophomore Griffin Shira scored two each.

Senior Nick Vass paired three caused turnovers and three ground balls, while sophomore Nick Werner forced a pair of miscues. The sophomore also joined Waligurski with a team high four ground balls.

Senior goaltender Riley White scored the victory with one save and three ground balls.

Sophomore Eric Conlon scored three goals for Neumann (5-5, 1-1 Atlantic East), while classmate Jack Newswanger went 13-22 at the faceoff spot with 12 ground balls. Junior goaltender Brendan Risley suffered the loss, despite 19 saves.

The Cavaliers will look to extend their NCAA record 118 game conference win streak on Wednesday, when they welcome Wesley College (2-7, 1-1 Atlantic East) to Edith Robb Dixon Field. The opening faceoff is slated for 7pm.
