RADNOR, PA – The Cabrini softball team scored its first Atlantic East Conference victories today, as the Cavaliers topped Wesley 6-2 and 16-2 at Cabrini Field. With today's wins, the Blue and White improved to 16-12 overall and evened its league record at 2-2.
Game One: Cabrini 6, Wesley 2
Trailing 1-0 midway through the fifth inning, the Cavaliers got all the offense they needed.
Sophomores
Olivia Young and
Amber Seamen and freshman
Faith Pitsikoulis reached base to load the bags with no out. Following a strikeout, freshman
Grace Stairiker drew a walk to put the Cavaliers on the board.
A single up the middle by sophomore
Jess Redding put the Blue and White ahead before senior
Darian Caputo's infield single marked the eventual winning run.
Junior
Alexandra Schell's single through the right side scored Redding before Young capped the scoring with a two RBI double to left, plating Cintron and Caputo.
That was more offense than Stairiker needed, as the freshman hurler allowed just two more hits over the final three frames. The rookie collected the win after allowing two earned runs on just three hits in seven innings of work.
Young went 2-3 in the opener with two RBI and a runs scored. Schell, Seamen and Redding also tallied two base knocks.
Game Two: Cabrini 16, Wesley 6 (6 innings)
The Wolverines grabbed an early lead with single runs in the second and third innings, but Cabrini had an answer in the third. The Cavaliers took advantage of a costly, three base Wesley error to get on the board before a Seamen single scored Schell.
Wesley had an answer of its own in the fourth, using a two out rally to score three runs and build a 5-2 cushion.
Cabrini then found its power stroke in the bottom of the frame to tie the game. A Caputo double down the left field line scored Redding. Then Cintron blasted her second home run of the season over the left field fence to even the score at 5-5.
The Cavaliers found more power in the fifth inning, as Seamen opened the frame with her second home run of the season. After a
Faith Pitsikoulis single, freshman
Allison Martin banged a two run shot to left center for her first career home run. Fellow freshman
Emily Wargo's first career four bagger pushed Cabrini's lead to 9-5 after the fifth.
Wesley got one run back on a home run, before the Blue and White put the game away.
Seamen opened the sixth inning with a single then advanced on a strike out before scoring on a pair of wild pitches. Two batters later, a Redding single drove in Martin. A Caputo single loaded the bases before Cintron's single to left plated Wargo.
Schell decided to put the game on ice, as the junior bashed a grand slam over the center field fence to end the afternoon's action.
Cabrini's 16 runs, 19 hits and five home runs each marked season highs.
Schell went 4-5, falling a double shy of the cycle, with four RBI and two runs scored, while Cintron and Seamen went 3-4 and combined for five RBI and five runs scored.
Stairiker earned her second win of the day, allowing just one hit in two innings of relief.
The Cavaliers have a few day off before hosting Cedar Crest College (9-14, 5-1 CSAC) on Thursday, in a reschedule doubled dip form Friday. First pitch is scheduled for 3pm at Cabrini Field.
