Game Recap: Soccer (Women) |

Women's Soccer Tames Scarlet Raptors, 3-1

RADNOR, PA - The Cabrini women's soccer team outlasted a fiery Rutgers-Camden team this evening by way of a 3-1 final to secure their fourth victory of the year.

First half tallies from seniors Diana VanSickle and Katelyn Gilinger highlighted the open stanza, while a 64th minute goal from junior Alex Garces put the game on ice for the Cavaliers.

On a night where every Cavalier saw action, VanSickle paced the offense with four shots. Gilinger and Garces tallied two each, while juniors Maria Hagan and Rachel Wood, senior Marissa Portelli, and sophomore Rylie Butler rounded out the Cavs to mark the shot column.

In total, the Blue and White held a 12-5 advantage in shots, including a 5-2 mark in shots on goal, while the defense held the Scarlet Raptors without a corner on the night. Junior Ashley Tutzauer continued her strong play in frame as she allowed just one goal by way of a penalty kick.

Gilinger sparked the Cavalier offense after slipping behind the Rutgers back line and putting a hard shot on frame from the right side of the 18 yard box. Scarlet Raptors' keeper Natalie Eberhardt made the save but failed to control the ball, allowing VanSickle to gather the rebound in front of an open net in side the six yard box for her second goal of the year.

Less than 40 seconds later, the Cavaliers doubled their lead after Rutgers played a ball back to their keeper, but Gilinger won the footrace against a charging Eberhardt at the top of the 18 and delivered the ball into another empty net.

The 2-0 Cabrini lead would hold through the intermission until a Cavalier tackle inside their own box drew a whistle to set up the aforementioned penalty kick. Rutgers' Lindsay Hernandez delivered a ball to the bottom right corner to put the visitors on the board and cut the Cavs' lead to 2-1.

Garces would put the game on ice less than five minutes later, however as the junior played a free kick from freshman Rebekah Cunningham and pushed the ball past a diving Eberhardt. The Blue and White defense stymied an aggressive Rutgers' attack the rest of the way to hold on for the 3-1 final.

Following tonight's action the Cavaliers improve to 4-1-1 on the season and stay undefeated at Edith Robb Dixon Field. They'll look to pick up their first road victory on Saturday, September 21st when they travel to Baltimore, MD to take on Notre Dame of Maryland University. Game time is slated for 4pm.
