Women's Soccer Claims Dominant Victory Over Notre Dame of MD

BALTIMORE, MD - The Cabrini women's soccer team claimed a dominant 3-1 victory this evening over the Notre Dame of Maryland University Gators.

The Blue and White attack overpowered the hosts en route to a season best 23-2 advantage in shots, including a 15-1 advantage in shots on goal, while also claiming an impressive 19 corners.

Senior Diana VanSickle paced the Cavalier offense with four shots and her third goal of the season, while junior Maria Hagan tallied the Cavs' first goal of the evening. Hagan, along with classmate Alex Garces and senior Katelyn Gilinger recorded three shots each.

As mentioned, Hagan opened the scoring quickly for the Cavs thanks to a strike in just the second minute of action. The 1-0 advantage would stick into the 20th minute until an own goal on the Gators doubled Cabrini's lead.

Notre Dame managed to cut their deficit in half shortly following the intermission thanks to deep shot that sailed just over the head of junior netminder Ashley Tutzauer

The Cavs would eventually push their lead back to two after senior Marissa Portelli delivered a perfect corner in the box for VanSickle. The Veteran high pointed the ball and connected for the header in the 79th minute.

Notre Dame keeper Myla Young kept the hosts in the game, fending off a furious Cavalier attack and ultimately stopping nine shots on frame.

Following today's contest the Cavs improve to 5-1-1 on the season. They'll look for their third consecutive victory on Wednesday, September 25th when they host Widener University at Edith Robb Dixon Field. Game time is slated for 4pm.
