READING, PA - The Cabrini men's tennis team picked up their first victory of the Fall season this afternoon after topping Penn State University Berks by a 6-3 final.
The Cavs opened up doubles play with strong victories in the No.2 and No. 3 slot. Juniors
Vince Paetow and
Ben Mead cruised to an 8-3 final in the second flight, while senior
Matthew DeMaria and junior
Dalton Roberto claimed an 8-4 victory in the third flight.
Cabrini nearly made it a sweep of doubles play as senior
CJ LaMantia and junior
Nick Falcone went to a tiebreak with Berks' Diego Olazagasti and Curtis Uhle, but were narrowly edged by an 8-7 (7-5) final.
LaMantia had his No. 1 singles match end the same way as Olazagasti outlasted the veteran for an 8-7, 7-5 final. The Blue and White tallied victories in flights No. 2, 3, 4, and 5, however as Paetow, Falcone, Mead and DeMaria topped their Berks counterparts to claim the match victory for the Cavs.
Following today's action the Cavaliers move improve to 1-0 on the year. They will look to double their wins when they host Jefferson University on Thursday, September 26th at the Dixon Tennis Courts. Match time is slated for 3:30pm.
