RADNOR, PA – Freshman
Matt Duddy made the most of his home debut, as the rookie netted a pair of second half goals to lead the Cabrini men's soccer team to a 2-1 victory over DeSales University tonight at Edith Robb Dixon Field.
Duddy's first career tally came in the 61st minute, as junior
Christian Rafter's cross from the right side found Duddy's outstretched foot, as the rookie flicked the ball into the net to break a scoreless tie.
The Cavaliers doubled their lead just three minutes later, as Duddy collected an errant pass from a Desales midfielder and chipped it over the Bulldogs' netminder.
The Bulldogs turned up their offensive pressure over teh final 25 minutes as they looked to claw back into the game. Their intensity paid off in the 87th minute, when sophomore Kevin Kile's long pass found freshman Anthony Contreras to put the visitors on the board.
That was DeSales' final scoring chance, as the Blue and White defense sealed the victory.
The Cavaliers owned a slim 10-9 advantage in shots, while DeSales forced six corner kicks to just four for Cabrini, including five in the second half.
Duddy accounted for five of Cabrini's shots, with five other Cavaliers attempting one each. Junior goaltender
Anthony Zampirri scored the victory, recording three saves.
Contreras, joined junior Sean Tunney and freshman Dimeji Oyinkolade with two shots each for the Bulldogs (1-2), while sophomore goaltender Nathan Hatzfeld stopped four shot in the loss.
The Cavaliers will look to build a win streak on Friday, as they host Washington College (2-0). The opening kickoff is scheduled for 4:30pm at Edith Robb Dixon Field.
