Game Recap: Soccer (Men) |

Late Goal, Strong Defense Earn 2-1 Win over Washington (MD)

RADNOR, PA – The Cabrini men's soccer team opened its weekend on a high note, as the Cavaliers scored a 2-1 victory over Washington College (MD) tonight at Edith Robb Dixon Field.

The victory improved the Blue and White to 2-1 on the young season, with another tough home contest on the slate for tomorrow, as Randolph-Macon visits campus.

Cabrini fell behind in the 12th minue, as junior James Strine collected a rebound from his own shot and found the back of the net.

The Shoremen held their lead until the 39th frame, when senior Chris Araujo's corner kick service found classmate Andre Justin streaking to the net for a header goal.

Despite being outshot 11-4 in the opening 45 minutes, the Blue and White's defensive effort never allowed the Shoremen to get comfortable.

Junior goaltender Anthony Zampirri was a key cog in that effort, as the junior matched a career best with 10 saves, including several second half stops at point blank range.

Cabrini's defensive game plan was rewarded in the 77th minute, as senior Kostas Slikas's crossing pass found sophomore Nick Booth, who found the back of the net with game-winning tally.

Once again, the Cavaliers turned to Zampirri and its defense to seal the win, as Washington recorded three of its 10 corner kicks and three shots in the game's final six minutes.

Booth accounted for two of Cabrini's seven shots in the win, while the Shoremen recorded 22, including five by Strine.

The Cavaliers have little time to enjoy today's victory, as the Yellow Jackets come to Edith Robb Dixon Field riding a 3-0 start after today's 1-0 victory at No. 15 Eastern. Kickoff is slated for 4pm.
