CHESTER, PA – The Cabrini swim teams showed little rust after more than a month away from competition today, as the Cavaliers made the short trek to Chester, PA to face Widener University.
The men suffered a tight 131-123 loss in a meet that came down to the final event of the day, while the women fell 173-88.
The Blue and White men scored three of its seven event wins in the final three individual events of the day, as junior
Kurt Schuehler won the 500-yard freestyle (5:24.45) and sophomore
Marc Consiglio claimed the 100-yard butterfly (57.76) before the Cavaliers swept the 400-yard individual medley.
Junior
Cameron Mousley reached the wall first in 4:32.63 before sophomore
Mac Granto and junior
Nick Conroy completed the podium sweep.
The final result came down to the 200-yard freestyle relay, which the home side pulled out by just 0.77 seconds, as the quartet of Consiglio, freshmen
Ryan Bosch and
Jason Highet and junior
Luke McDevitt finished second.
Mousley earned his first victory of the day in the 200-yard freestyle (1:50.97). While Consiglio, Granto and McDevitt also claimed spots atop the winner's podium.
Consiglio's time of 1:03.81 in the 100-yard breaststroke was good for a Blue and White win, while Granto claimed the 100-yard freestyle in 49.32. McDevitt also scored a win in the 200-yard backstroke, reaching the wall in 2:08.16.
Junior
Tara McCloskey led the Cabrini women scoring a pair of victories. The junior posted a victorious time of 1:09.73 in the 100-yard breaststroke before winning the 500-yard freestyle in 5:44.0.
Classmate
Kelly Schuehler also scored a win, taking the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:50.79. The junior also recorded a third place finish in the 100-yard backstroke.
The Cavaliers will return to the comfy confines of the Dixon Center Pool on Friday, when they play host to Dickinson College. The action will get underway at 4pm.
