Game Recap: Basketball (Men) |

Men's Basketball Succumbs to Griffins 77-67

RADNOR, PA – The Cabrini men's basketball team shot nearly .600 from the field in the second half, but could not make a significant dent in its halftime deficit, as the Cavaliers suffered a 77-67 loss to Gwynedd Mercy tonight at Nerney Field House.

Junior Justin Gans led the Blue and White (3-12, 0-3 Atlantic East) with 12 points and five assists, while sophomore Voshon Mack paired 11 points and 11 rebounds for his ninth double-double of the season.

Mack and junior Billy Warren tallied five blocked shots each, as Cabrini recorded 10 blocked shots, a feat not accomplished since the team recorded 10 in a win against Immaculata on Dev. 7, 2016.

The Cavaliers took an early lead, but the Griffins responded with a 10-0 spurt to grab a 16-9 lead at the 15:05 mark. Cabrini sliced the GMercyU lead to three, but a Blue and White cold spell allowed the Griffins to extend their lead.

Cabrini scored just six points over the next nine minutes, as the visitors used an 18-6 run to push their lead to 36-21 with 3:47 left in the opening stanza.

The Cavaliers headed into the halftime break trailing 41-29 after shooting just .370 from the field in the opening 20 minutes.

GMercyU's hot shooting continued into the second half, as it used a 14-4 run to open a game high 55-33 advantage with 14:25 to play.

After struggling with its shooting touch in the first half, the Blue and White connected on 14-24 after the break.

The Griffins derived much of their success from a +17 rebound advantage, including 18 offensive rebounds.

Warren joined sophomore Ryan Byars with seven points, while senior Keith Blassingale and junior Brice Parks added six each.

Senior Rich Dunham fell just shy of a triple double, pairing 23 points, 12 rebounds and eight assists for the Griffins (11-4, 2-0 Atlantic East). Junior Donaven Spencer added 15 points and nine boards, while freshman Nathaniel Walker chipped in with 11 points.

The Cavaliers have some time to regroup, as they will not return to the hardwood until next Wednesday, Jan. 22, when they travel to Marywood University (5-10, 0-2 Atlantic East). Game time is set for 8pm in Scranton, PA.
