SCRANTON, PA – The Cabrini men's basketball team could not overcome a hot shooting Marywood club in the second half of tonight's Atlantic East Conference contest, as the Cavalier suffered an 89-72 loss.
The defeat dropped the Blue and White to 3-13 overall and 0-4 in league action.
Senior
Keith Blassingale led Cabrini with 19 points and six assists, while junior
Justin Gans added a season high 14 points. Fellow junior
Brice Parks chipped in with 12 points, two more than senior
Jarren Abad.
Freshman
Milt Robinson grabbed a team high six rebounds, one more than classmate
Jordan Brown.
Neither team could secure the game's momentum in a first half that saw 14 lead changes. The Blue and White trailed by as many as seven points in the opening stanza and looked up at that deficit with just two minutes left in the first half.
Back to back three pointers by sophomore
Pat Costa and Blassingale evened the score at 36, but a late Marywood free throw gave the Pacers a 37-36 lead at the half.
The Cavaliers carried their late momentum into the second half, building an early four point cushion. The home team responded in a big way, using an 18-4 run to build a 55-45 lead and regain control of the action.
Cabrini could not fight its way back into the game, as Marywood shot .621 from the floor in the second half, connecting on 7-13 from three point range. Meanwhile, the Cavaliers shot a tick over .300, including 4-16 from deep, after the halftime break.
Jack DeGroot led the Pacers (6-11, 1-3 Atlantic East) with 21 points and seven rebounds, while Adam Boussatta added 18 point.
The Cavaliers will return to Nerney Field House on Saturday, when they host Wesley College (10-7, 4-0 Atlantic East) at 4pm.
Saturday will also mark the program's annual Alumni Day. Cabrini will honor the 1981 Keystone Athletic Conference championship team at halftime, with its alums taking the hardwood following the game.
