No. 3 Men's Lacrosse Opens with Convincing Win at Haverford

HAVERFORD, PA – The Cabrini men's lacrosse team made an early statement today, as the No. 3 Cavaliers scored a 14-2 win at Haverford in the 2020 debut for both teams.

The Blue and White recorded 51 shots, as eight Cavaliers marked the scoring column.

Senior Jake Klein paced the attack with six points, including four assists. The senior was also one of six players to record two goals on the day.

Fellow senior Ty Kostack paired two goals and two assists, while freshman Kohl Wesner tallied two goals and a helper in his collegiate debut. Senior Matt LoParo, junior Kyle Tucker and freshman Austin Bolton also scored two goals each, while senior Mike Gerzabek notched a pair of assists.

Senior goaltender Matt Nestler collected the victory after posting seven saves in the first half, before being replaced by freshman Matt Sageder.

Senior defenseman Tommy DeLuca paired four caused turnovers and five ground balls, with juniors Jake Huey and Corey Carver and freshman Drew Brown joining senior Bobby Cressman with three ground balls each.

The Cavaliers wasted little time in finding its offensive rhythm, as Wesner's first collegiate goal came less than two minutes into the season. The rookie's goal sparked a Blue and White offensive attack that outshot the Fords 15-3 and pressured them into seven turnovers in the first period.

Cabrini built a 6-0 cushion after 15 minutes, as five Cavaliers marked the scoring column in the first quarter. The Cavaliers' scoring run rolled into the second quarter, as LoParo and Bolton pushed the lead to 8-0 before the home side converted a man-up situation midway through the period.

Haverford pulled to within 9-2 at the halftime break, but any hopes of a comeback were dashed, as the Blue and White held the Fords to just one shot on goal in the second half.

Brian Geffroy scored both goals for Haverford off passes from Wyatt Feinberg. Goaltender Ethan Donlon recorded 14 saves in the loss.

The Cavaliers will make their 2020 Edith Robb Dixon Field debut next Saturday, when they play host to No. 14 Lynchburg (0-1). The opening faceoff is slated for 12pm.
