CLERMONT, FL – The Cabrini softball team opened its 2020 campaign with a pair of games on Sunday in Clermont, FL. The Cavaliers could not find their offense in a 2-0 loss to Hanover College, but rebounded in a 13-0 victory over Northern Vermont-Johnson in the nightcap.
Game 1: Hanover 2, Cabrini 0
The Blue and White looked to get on the board early, as junior
Aysiah Cintron drew a one out walk, before stealing second and advancing to third on a wild pitch. Junior
Olivia Young also drew a two out free pass, but both were stranded.
Hanover got all the offense it needed in the bottom of the first inning, plating a pair of runs on three hits, as the first three hitters reached on a single, an RBI triple and an RBI single. The Panthers threaten to extend their lead but Cabrini's sophomore hurler
Grace Stairiker closed the door.
Stairiker settled after the first inning, holding Hanover to just five hits over the game's final six innings with four strikeouts.
Cabrini could not overcome its early deficit, as it only mustered one hit on the day, a single by junior
Jess Redding in the third inning, while registering 12 strikeouts.
Game 2: Cabrini 13, Northern Vermont-Johnson 0
The Blue and White wasted little time overcoming its offensive woes in the opener, posting 16 hits, including three extra base hits.
Young led the way with a double and triple among her three hits, while driving in three runs and scoring twice. Cintron matched Young with three hits and added two RBI. Junior
Amber Seamen and sophomore
Allison Martin also collected two hits and three RBI each.
After a scoreless first inning, the Cavaliers got hot in the second, plating seven runs on eight hits. The first nine batters of the inning reached base, highlighted by back to back RBI triples by Young and Martin. Cabrini added a pair of runs in the third, as Young and Cintron scored on a NV-J infield error.
The Cavaliers extended their lead in the fourth, notching four runs on five hits. Redding, junior

Alexandra Schell loaded the bases with no outs before Cintron and Seamen cleared the bags with consecutive singles. A Young single plated Cintron to end the game's scoring.
The Cavaliers will return to action on Monday morning, when they will get a second shot at Hanover at 10am before facing Capital at 12:15pm.
