CLERMONT, FL – The Cabrini softball team avenged its season-opening loss to Hanover but could not overcome an early deficit in a loss to Capital on the Cavaliers second day of spring break games in Florida.
Game 1: Cabrini 9, Hanover 0
After recording just one hit in Sunday's loss to Hanover, the Cavaliers rebounded to score nine runs and earn a win over the Panthers.
After two scoreless innings, the Blue and White opened the scoring in the third, as junior
Amber Seamen's double scored classmate
Aysiah Cintron.
Cabrini added to its lead in the third, as a Hanover infield error allowed sophomore
Faith Pitsikoulis to cross the plate. Seamen's SAC fly plated senior
Alexandra Schell before junior
Olivia Young's infield single scored Cintron.
The Cavaliers put the game on ice in the fifth, taking advantage of a trio of Hanover defensive miscues.
Junior
Casey Scheuren reached on an infield error before advancing to second on a single by sophomore
Kaitlyn Martin. A Pitsikoulis bunt then packed the sacks with no outs.
Junior
Jess Redding then cleared the bases, as her base knock led to a pair of infield errors resulting in four Cabrini runs.
Sophomore hurler
Grace Stairiker made the Blue and White offense stand, surrendering just two hits with three punch outs in five innings of work.
Seamen went 2-4 with a pair of RBI, while Cintron, Pitsikoulis and Redding scored two runs each.
Game 2: Capital 7, Cabrini 4
The Cavaliers could not carry their offense into the early stages of the day's second, as Capital scored in the first, second, third, fifth and sixth innings, building a 7-0 lead over the Blue and White.
After being held to just one hit over the first five innings, the Cavaliers found their offense in the sixth. Cabrini loaded the bases with one out before Cintron, Seamen and sophomore
Emily Wargo connected for RBI singles to pull the Blue and White to within 7-3.
Despite allowing consecutive singles to open the top of the seventh, freshman pitcher
Carli Melchiorre stranded both runners to keep Cabrini's deficit at 7-3.
The Cavaliers could only send one runner across the plate in the bottom of the frame, as Cintron's triple scored Pitsikoulis.
Pitsikoulis and junior
Amber Seamen accounted for four of the Cavaliers' seven hits in the loss, while junior
Casey Scheuren surrendered three earned runs over 5.2 innings.
The Cavalier (2-2) will return to action today at 2:15pm when it meets Alma (3-0) before getting a chance to avenge yesterday's loss to Capital (1-1) at 4:30pm.
