Softball Splits a Pair of Games on Tuesday

CLERMONT, FL – The Cabrini softball team moved to 3-3 on the young season on Tuesday, as it suffered an 8-3 loss to Alma before topping Capital 4-1.

Game 1: Alma 8, Cabrini 3
After a scoreless first inning, the Scotts jumped ahead with five runs on four hits and three walks in the second inning.

The Blue and White's deficit grew to 6-0 before the Cavaliers found some offense in the bottom of the fifth.

Cabrini took advantage of a pair of leadoff walks to open the inning before senior Alexandra Schell's sacrifice bunt drove in Cabrini's first run. Later in the frame, an infield error allowed sophomore Allison Martin to cross the plate.

Alma got the two runs back in the top of the seventh putt the Cavaliers in an 8-2 with three outs to play.

Martin, Schell and junior Aysiah Cintron reached base to open the inning before classmate Amber Seamen's single plated Martin.

Unfortunately, the Blue and White could not muster any more offense.

Seamen led Cabrini with two hits, while Martin scores twice. Freshman Carli Melchiorre suffered the loss, allowing seven earned runs on 11 hits.

Game 2: Cabrini 4, Capital 1
The Cavaliers rallied in Tuesday's second game, riding a dominant pitching performance by sophomore Grace Stairiker.

The sophomore hurler allowed just on earned run on four hits with seven strike outs in seven innings of work.

The Blue and White wasted little time getting on the board, as Schell opened the game with a triple before scoring on Seamen's fielder's choice. A double steal put Cintron and Seamen on second and third, before the duo scored on a single by junior Olivia Young.

Capital got one of the runs back in the bottom of the first before Stairiker shut the Crusaders down. Stairiker allowed just three base runners over the game's final six innings.

The Cavaliers regained their three run cushion in the top of the second, as a Schell single plated sophomore Emily Wargo.

Schell collected a pair of base knocks, while Young drove in two runs.
