CLERMONT, FL – After a two day break fro competition, the Cabrini softball team returned to action today. The Cavaliers fell just shy of handing Alma College its first loss of the season before holding on for a victory over Eastern Nazarene.
Game 1: Alma 7, Cabrini 4
After suffering an 8-3 loss to the Scots (8-0) on Tuesday, the Cavaliers looked to exact some revenge, as the teams met this morning.
The Cavaliers jumped ahead early, as junior
Amber Seamen's infield ground out scored senior
Alexandra Schell. The lead was short lived, as Alma evened the score in the bottom of the frame.
The Blue and White regained its lead in the fifth inning. Senior
Carolyn Alcantara opened the inning with a walk before scoring two batters later. Junior
Aysiah Cintron drove in classmate
Jess Redding to give the Cavaliers a 3-1 lead.
The Scots again had an answer in the bottom of the fifth, as a two-run double evened the score. Alma took its first lead of the day in the bottom of the sixth, as four consecutive base hits and a two-run triple gave the Scots a 7-3 lead.
The Cavaliers looked to make a final push in the top of the seventh. Cintron blasted a one out triple before scoring on a Seamen sacrifice fly, but the Blue and White could muster no more offense.
Cintron went a perfect 4-4 on the day, with sophomore
Faith Pitsikoulis accounting for Cabrini's other two hits in the loss. Sophomore
Grace Stairiker allowed six earned runs on eight hits in the loss.
Game 2: Cabrini 6, Eastern Nazarene 5
The Blue and White again grabbed an early lead in the nightcap. Cintron reached on an infield single before advancing to third after a pair of wild pitches. The Cavalier made ENC (0-1) pay, as the junior scored on classmate
Olivia Young's single.
ENC evened the score in the top of the third, but the Cavaliers regain their advantage in the bottom of the frame. Cintron reached on an infield error before crossing the plate on a Young triple. The lead grew to 3-1 one batter later, as Pitsikoulis' infield single scored Young.
The Lions evened the score in the top of the fourth on a two out, two run home run.
The Cavaliers had an answer of their own in the bottom of the fourth. The Blue and White loaded the bases with one out before Seamen cleared them with a three RBI double to centerfield.
ENC looked to make a comeback in the fifth, scoring two runs before junior hurler
Casey Scheuren recorded a strike out to end the inning.
Both team posted base runners in both the sixth and seventh innings, but neither offense could drive a run across the plate.
Sophomore
Emily Wargo joined Young with two base hits, while Young and Seamen combined to drive in five runs. Scheuren recorded five strikeouts and scattered 12 hits to secure the complete game victory.
The Cavaliers (4-4) will close their spring break with a pair of games on Saturday. Cabrini will face Mitchell College (0-0) at 10am and New England College (0-0) at 12:15pm.
