Softball Closes Spring Trip with 5-5 Mark

CLERMONT, FL – The Cabrini softball team closed its Florida trip on Saturday, with a split of its final two contests. The Blue and White moved to 5-5 after suffering a 6-5 loss to Mitchell College and scoring a 10-0 win over New England College.

Game 1: Mitchell 6, Cabrini 5
The Blue and White jumper on the board early, as junior Olivia Young's sacrifice fly scored senior Alexandra Schell. The Mariners plated a pair to take a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the second, but a Young single drove in classmate Amber Seamen to even the score after three innings.

Cabrini retook the lead in the fourth, as sophomore Danielle Miller's single scores classmate Kaitlyn Martin. Mitchell pulled even in the bottom of the frame, taking advantage of a Cabrini error to even the score at 3-3.

The Cavaliers regained the lead in the top of the fifth, as Martin drove in Seamen and Young, who opened the frame with back to back singles.

Cabrini carried its two run cushion into the bottom of the seventh, but three hits, including a pair of doubles led to three runs and a walkoff loss for the Blue and White.

Game 2: Cabrini 10, New England 0
Cabrini jumped ahead in the first inning of the nightcap, as five Cavaliers reached base, en route to three runs. The Cavaliers stayed hot in the second, sending eight batters to the play, as the club extended the lead to 5-0.

The Blue and White put the game away in the third inning, pairing four singles and three walks to score five runs.

While the offense was clicking, sophomore pitcher Grace Stairiker kept NEC off balance, allowing just three hits and recording six strikeouts in the complete game win.

The Cavaliers (5-5) will return to action on March 10, when it hosts its home opener against Widener (0-0). First pitch of the nonconference doubleheader is slated for 3pm at Cabrini Field.
