GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA – With just three games remaining in the regular season, the Cavaliers' hold on a postseason berth got a bit more tenuous after today's 102-75 loss at Gwynedd Mercy.
Today's loss dropped the Blue and White to 7-15 overall and 3-6 in the Atlantic East Conference. Cabrini closes this weekend's action in fifth place in the league standings, with six teams slated to qualify for the conference tournament.
Three Cavaliers score in double figures today, led by sophomore
Voshon Mack who paired 18 points and six rebounds. Senior
Keith Blassingale added 14 points and six assists, while junior
Justin Gans posted 13 points.
After going back and forth over the game's opening minutes, the Griffins used a 12-4 spurt to snap a 14-14 tie and establish a 26-18 lead with 11 minutes left in the first half.
The Cavaliers cut their deficit back to four points, but the home side responded with a 17-4 run, building a 43-26 cushion with just under six minutes left in the opening stanza.
Despite shooting .561 from the field in the first half, Cabrini went into the halftime break looking up at a 53-37 deficit.
The Blue and White looked to climb back into the game in the opening minutes of the second stanza, but the Griffins scored the first 15 points of the half, extending their lead to 68-37 just three minutes into the half.
The Cavaliers fell on the short end of the battle on the glass, as Gwynedd Mercy outrebounded Cabrini 43-33, including 15-8 on the offensive glass. Cabrini also committed 19 turnovers, which the Griffins converted into 24 points, while the Blue and White forced just 13 miscues.
The Griffins (16-5, 7-1 Atlantic East) got much of their offensive production from the duo of Rich Dunham and Jordan Perkins, who combined for 47 points on 15-23 shooting, 20 rebounds and seven assists.
The Cavaliers will look to rebound on Wednesday, when they play host to Marywood University (6-15, 1-7 Atlantic East). Tip is slated for 8pm at Nerney Field House.
